Let's see, they're all clod based: About $1500 in one, and it still doesn't run, two years later Another $800-$900 in another And about $500 in a third At least the last two run! And I really wish I didn't try to figure this out... |

For my tlt build I initially spent about $1000. But over the years, I've probably put in another $1000 or so easy. My axial build, I'm at about $800. And thats using the same radio that I have for the tlt one. Now with that being said... here is another thread that I can never let my wife see. |

Yuppers, lots of dough.... Axial $1400 Emaxx $2500 RC18T $600 Wheely king $200 (for my 3 year old, no real upgrades there, just put my novak 55T in it to sllloowwww it downm, and my old spektrum dx3.0 'cause I kept waiting for him to put an eye out with the Am radio antenna, aaahhhh! ) FAR less than my last 1:1 sammy build. The winch, bumpers, and xfer case alone cost that much... and I broke the damned xfer case... Don't wanna know what I had in my old Scout 800... Needless to say, $25 here, $120 there, much easier to negotiate with the wife. $2000 all at once has to come with an explanation, justification, begging, etc... *sigh* ...I miss my sammy... |

I remembered when I started out, I search for a thread like this and MANY people said 350 is a good starting point. WOW, so many "grand" rigs. Should we have a class system based on price then? Yeah, if this is compared to other hobbies, it is cheap. I almost end up doing railroad modelling. Oh well, guess I will open up an account and deposit some money every month. So then I will use it wisely. |

I gave up calculating how much I've spent on my crawler because it started to get frightening Put it his way, if I spent as much money (and time) on my "real" vehicles, they'd be in much better shape than they are right now!! I hope my wife does not read this post |

I had a clodbuster at one point, but don't know where it went. I think it ended up getting thrown out :( I am now looking at an AX10 kit, and with everything I want, its looking like i'll spend $900 or so. Scott |

For the sake of my mariage my wife and I agreed to stop keeping track of it. But I bet I've got over $800 into my scaler. But I'm a veteran scrounger. Almost everything on it was used. My new comp tuber I'm building will be budget build by comparison. The axles and tranny came from trading off an old HPI RS4 Pro 2 roller,(that I paid $35 for) building the tuber cost me all of $50 (and I still have materials left over for the next one.) The tires I won on a giveaway here, and the shocks are just some El-Cheapo 3-racing piggybacks (but they sure work smooth) And most of the electrics will either serve double-duty from my scaler or will be other stuff I have lying around. The only things I have to BUY for it is a lathe motor, some Yokes, rod ends, and a set of wheels. |

I really, really hope my wife sees this thread. At least then she'll believe the "Honest! Everyone has to spend this much to do poorly at comps!" line. |

For my current build I have ~450 invested so far. I had a few things sitting around already, traded for a few things, and have a few more purchases though. I dont want to add all that I have in my scaler. Started building it ~6 months ago and changed directions so many times anyway so I cant remember prices. |

| Oh My Gosh!!!!
Oh my gosh! What a question. I tallied up what I had into it as of Nov. '07 - Feb '08 and came up with over 2 grand. Please keep in mind I have three crawlers. I don't think they are anywhere near comp ready as I feel tweaking is needed on all three. :-( The best and most fun spending money I have had in a while!!!!!!! How much you spend is up to you. Do you want to just play around on the rocks or get into serious competition or maybe somewhere in between? It all depends on what you want to do. I think I am somewhere in between. I really enjoy getting out there and running my trucks over the terrain. I enjoy looking for new places that I can run my trucks and reviewing them for my RC club. I also enjoy getting together with friends and seeing what other trucks can do. I'm just out there to have fun. It's not a bad habit to have over drinking till you can't stand, smoking 5-50 packs of cigarettes a day, doing drugs until you don't know who you are!!! The worst body damage I am doing is maybe getting arthritis in my trigger finger and maybe spraining an ankle tripping over rocks rather than having a liver that is as hard as a table top, lungs that look like asphalt or a brain that is half dead!!!! I guess I am showing a little bit of bias. |
