Default started to play with fake rock ideas

Heres a couple pics of test run of an idea, a little small and not quite done, but only took about 1/2 hr. Need to let dry and then figure out what to put on top of plaster, and if it will need any support under the wire mesh.

So you're making what a lot of other people already have? Like others said, it's nice to have around in the basement for when there's nothing good on tv, all your r/cs are built and it's raining. Not for systematic comps though. It gets boring after the first time.

just getting some info out for newbies like myself. Alot of people in here think everyone knows everything, not so. Nobody knows everything, we were all new at some point and needed help and suggestions.
I've gotten alot of good info from here ,and some not so good, but I just ignore the not so good ,I don't raz the guy for telling it.

TOMEGUNN I think the idea you are on is great I also agree that they will get boring after about the fourth time in use.
BUT when there is snow and -10 deg outside , I think its an AWESOME idea. I went through some serious withdrawls last winter.
Idea : have some of the members/builders build theirs diffrent. I mean to a diffrent spec . Some will build a mountain in the middle , like you did. Some will have to build up to say 12" first , then build a mountain or a crack.
There are a lot of diffrent ways to build them , I mean materials wise , and you can find a bunch if you do a search.

Here's the cubes I've been making for our club's indoor comp spot. We have a blast on them .

HobbyTown indoor course

And here's some pics of our last comp.

They don't get boring ,you turn them place them on an incline and it's all about gate placement.

doh!

Ricky's rocks are pretty cool. They look easier to run on than they are, and like he said, pick up one side a bit and everything changes...

It's richer than a stucco mix. They are holding up good, I got a little thin in some spot, like a couple of the ridges. I can always mix up a little mix and patch them and even add a bump or two on them.

Here's a how to video on the mix I used.

not trying to be critical, but it would help if you told us what you were doing with each pic. that way we could follow along and give suggestions, if any, to your process and understand in case we decide to give the process a go for ourselves.
