john petrucci .....
I have to mention here that I am a drummer, but as things go I have to also include Dime Bag (rip) as well.... If we could include banjoes as well I would have said Bela Fleck.

I play, so my list of favorites is 1000 miles long... here's a favorite song that's always on the ipod.

Sonny Landreth. Greatest contemporary slide player you've probably never heard of... If you are remotely into the blues or guitar music at all and get a chance to see him live, GO. You will not be disappointed.

Has there really been no one that has said Jeff Beck?

Why is it that everyone in the country or pop scene feels they have to make sure everyone knows that they can sing AND write their own songs? Is talent that scarce?

I agree with a lot of the guys mentioned, particularly Angus Young and Hendrix and admire them all for their skills, but I gotta give another vote for Dave Gilmore (Pink Floyd) for the emotion, and Matt Bellamy (MUSE) for rocking riffs! Bellamy is the Hendrix of today - in my opinion!

in the world of pop music it is rare..kinda pathetic the drivel the music companies put out..all preformulated crap about as inspiring as a bag of dirt..no yalent + autotune + you look good + team of songwriters + somekinda electronic band or hired studio guns = big record contract and yhe realization that the general population has no taste..lol

True dat. I guess all those years of listening to rock and metal when it was just rock and metal I took the whole "singer/songwriter" thing for granted. Chances were that if you sang it, you wrote it.
