I rode my bike back in the day with no brakes and I got over it .....Right over the hood of an old mans Cadillac pulling out a driveway. I was o.k., He was cool, but insisted to my parents that I put the brakes back on. Never rode without them again.

Well when i do get hit by car that was caused by me not having brakes on my bike, then i guess that will be my wake up call to put them on my bike but untill then im just fine riding bikes with no brakes.I have also been riding bikes with no brakes in the middle of down town at night time for years and never even had a close encounter with hitting a car. |

If you can ride your bike with no brakes and haven't had an accident with a car or another person...you're pretty lucky. Personally, I've seen too many brakeless kids at the skatepark almost slam into other riders/skaters/little kids because they couldn't stop quickly and have seen several others almost get hit by cars in the street. If you don't like brakes, that's fine, but brakes being too heavy or not working properly is a terrible excuse for not having them on. A brake lever/brake/cable weighs a pound at most and if that's considered too heavy you might wanna do some pushups or something. CustomCrawlerZ, you should post up a picture of that Hoffman Taj if you have one. |

If you're going to ride without brakes you might as well go full retard and ride without a helmet as well. Then, when you wipe out because you didn't have brakes, you'll wake up and never know what happened. |

But also the difference between me and other riders is im very caucious.Whether its a quad, bike,or dirtbike i don't take chances and i know my limits. When i ride my bike around town i don't go pedaling as fast as i can and cut people off and i use the cross walk when its my turn to go.

When your at the park and you snake my run cause you can't stop I won't think twice of throwing my bike at you. When you post things on the net especially a website with much more knowledgeable people, you open the up the flood gates for inputs and criticism. Relax. Get a back bone and take the knowledge with an open mind. Last edited by xgerstandtx; 07-13-2010 at 10:52 PM. |

Seriously kid, If I were your parents I would seriously kick your ass for riding no brakes and helmet. I just went out for a short cruise and forgot my helmet one day. I no longer remember that day. put your damn brakes on and get a helmet.

That's a great how-to. I would almost guarantee if you buy another bike and it's not put together by a decent bike shop, the brakes are gonna suck. It's not hard to make even a crappy set of 990's work well. Take a couple of hours, watch some how-to videos, and learn how to set up brakes. | |

My friend pretty much gave me a bike for $20,its another specialized fuse. It's pretty heavy and some parts could use an upgrade like the sprocket, cranks, and pedals but it works so it will have to do for now. It has brakes on it but they don't work the best but i am going to leave them on and tune them good and probably get a new cable.Even if i don't use them all the time,it would be nice to have them if i ever needed them. |

IMO the main reason top riders went brakeless was the CLEAN LINES. and you can drope some wieght, if I drop my front brake I drope about a 1lb but you guys probably dont have spotters when your riding street do you? you really need to mount your brake. the bike may be a little lighter, the lines may be cleaner. but they may save your face. I'm on a motel pc and cant stay on long. check out my bike album to see my boys one of a kind S&M LTF 18" the luna is mine |
