| So out in California
So we were out out there for 2 weeks and every friend and family member that we visited had a big screen and my dad complained every time see now why don't we have a big screen. Is it just status i don't get it. Someone explain to me the importance. They were all 40-70 inch by the way and he complains that he's stuck with a 32 inch. |

I know but my mom doesn't think we need a new tv that is bigger. I mean really it will only cost a few more than the one that we got like 4 years ago.

Big Screens are nice, my uncle has a 50" Sony. I don't see the need for one though and I'm happy with my 20" |

The main reason we have a 52 is for movies. We quit going to the theater to see movies because it's just too damned expensive to pay that much to see a movie one time. I'd rather wait and buy the Blu-Ray for MUCH less and have the ability to watch the movie any time I want - without putting up with the BS of inconsiderate assholes in the theater. When coupled with a decent receiver and decent surround sound speakers, you get a theater experience without all the BS you have to deal with at the theater - and without paying $40 to see a movie one time. It's also used as our computer monitor.

I went from a 27" TV 5 years ago to a 52 inch and I could never go back. The biggest differences I see is detail and immersion you feel having a larger part of viewing area filled with what ever it is you are watching. Downside, you need a good sized room to provide distance. A 50+ inch TV in a small area makes me feeling like I need to move my head in order to see the entire screen. |

i hate the black bars you get on some widescreen tvs. where like 1/3 of your tv is black because the film is in a stupid format. aargh like god damn it the tv has that shape already. fill it up.

On mine, I just adjust the format and black lines go away and the picture no longer looks stretched or squashed.

My kids aren't allowed to camp out in front of the TV. I'd much rather them play - be it inside or outside. The Wii, PS3, and computer are all connected to the receiver which is connected to the TV. Receiver handles all the switching and up-conversion for the non-HD signals (Wii and Nueros MPEG-4 recorder to record Netflix movies). So if the kids want to get on the Wii or watch something they pretty much have ask. We do Saturday night movies every weekend and will watch a few episodes of Top Gear through the week. Now that they're in school their television time will be cut to primarily movies on the weekend. We don't have cable or sat service, either.
