Yeah it's pretty sad that when your a complete dumb ass that you'll get paid for being one from others (Tax Payers) and probably more than any of those will make it 20years.

IMO in order to receive your check the Next test should be those same warning gates and lights next to a cliff with spikes on the floor. If you make it through the gates the check will be handed to you at the bottom.

Agree with hpiguy. Perfectly documented on camera and all signals, warnings, and barricades working as required.

On the flip side...

I was driving to an appointment yesterday behind a city-owned tractor with bush-hog attachment. It was raised up as we were both on the roadway. But with no warning, one of the decks wheels completely fell apart, sending a chunk of the jagged steel ring towards my 4Runner. It shot under my vehicle and sounded like an industrial-sized pin-ball machine before exiting the other side.

We both pulled into the next avail parking lot and exchanged info. Good guy/ nice guy... out working hard in the heat. I could tell that he felt bad. I wasn't thrilled either lol but I did a quick visual under my vehicle and things looked okay at first glance... no busted brake-lines, oil pan wasn't dented, tires appeared unscathed, etc.

I did however make the decision to contact the city and file an incident report just because I wasn't able to do a thorough inspection and might've overlooked something. The guy did absolutely nothing wrong as it was simply faulty equipment that led to the accident ( certainly the city's responsibility to maintain their equip... not his). He appeared a bit shaken up so before I left the scene, I assured him that I would let the city know that I felt that he was in NO way negligent or responsible for what happened.

When I talked to the agent for the city later that day, I told her the same thing... That the guy wasn't speeding nor acting recklessly, nor doing anything wrong. Told her that he was courteous and professional and I also put that on the incident report. I then proceeded to assure the representative that what I wanted to do, was to take my vehicle to the local Toyota dealership to simply have it looked at in case there might be an issue not immediately apparent.

And at least in my opinion, that's the way that things like this should be handled. It'll cost $65 at the dealership to make sure that all is well and assuming that everything's a-okay... that will be that. Long drawn out story but it just infuriates me when people try to get something for nothing or take advantage of companies, municipalities, individuals, etc... ( essentially hard working people just trying to do their jobs).

Thanks! I haven't been on RCC too long but it's absolutely apparent that y'all have that same degree of integrity. I honestly didn't want to file an incident report but I have to make sure that I cover my ass just in case anything happened under there that I didn't catch. I love my 240,000+ mile 4Runner!

Living in America is like walking on a string. The law and order thing is way too serious. One never knows what kind of lawsuit hits him/her.

Good on ya HPD. That's how everyone should handle things, but unfortunately, we've become the land of the free lawsuit.

Sounds like both parties involved just handled things the way responsible adults should behave.

City called me today and said to just have the service dept bill them directly. Very surprised yet appreciative that they trust me and the dealership to only do what needs to be done and that I won't have to hassle with out of pocket cost nor waiting for reimbursement.
