Default Electric Lawn mower

Hi guys, I'm starting a school project, and I'm planning on converting an old (really old) Webb lawn mower to electric. I was thinking I could take the gas motor off, mount a 5th scale motor and Esc on it with a huge Gens ace battery.

I was wondering if this motor and Esc would have enough power to power the lawnmower to go fast enough to cut the grass, and yet I don't have to wind it up so much that I fry the motor and ESC. Do you guys think it will work?

And I was also wondering, how can I control the esc without a remote. Will I have to make a circuit or is there a product, or what?

Check some of these out. I'm willing to bet the motors are way bigger than you are expecting

Why not just use a relay?

Get yourself an old golf cart motor or otherwise - run it on 24v with a relay. Cheap and powerful.

Hmm. I don't know where I'm going to get one of those. I'm pretty bad with non-rc electronics.
