I got the bench done today. Paint is dry and I got my parts storage bins installed. Its nice to have the extra room to work without bumping into things. The last thing I need to do is install some more lighting overhead. here are some shots of the bench and the new wheels that I did up for Buster. Went with white 2.2 narrowed down to 1.25 inches and wrapped my Flat Irons around them. I had a set of these done up in Charcoal before and I like how the larger rim looks. The white really stands out to me and it makes it a little easier to follow the truck. The only thing left is to paint the beadlock rings orance to match the paint. Let me know what you think And finally my piece of personal protection that I keep near my bench in case someone tried to come in on me while I'm in the workshop. You can see it in its holder on the leg of the bench. That is the shifter out of my lowrider. 28" over stock and yes that is a real Hurst shift knob for a handle! And last but not least, a huge thank you to Cow and Fumbles. You have no idea how nice it is to be wrenching again, both inside on my medium mat and in the workshop on the large one. Once I clean off some space on my Kobalt bench I will be moving my medium mat to the shop too. That bench is a standing height, so now I have options on where to work. I am admittedly lazy so having somewhere to sit and wrench is kinda nice! Last edited by Elmo; 02-25-2014 at 04:24 PM. |

Nice and well organized work bench. I like the white color on the bench.

I had my first trail run in over 2 years today and it was a blast. I only got to run for about 10 minutes but it was a good learning experience none the less. found that I need the brightness of the daylight to see and focus as best as I can and it was a little funny to watch me stagger around I'm sure, but even though the truck came home with some carnage I still had a great time. N8Welch brought his Twin Hammers and Wroncho and I had Buster and the original plan was to hit a small trail that cyclists use and head back around to the parking lot, but that trail was nearly dark with tree cover so we stayed in the rock gardens near the parking lot. Time for upgrades! Hellaflush Bronco anyone? And the one that had us both baffled: The total damage was minimal; only a broken C-Hub and a stripped screw, but the dogbone through the sidewall of the flat iron had us laughing pretty hard. Been in the hobby a long time and have never seen that one before. Last edited by Elmo; 07-20-2014 at 09:49 PM. |

At least it's an easy, and cheap fix. Even if you go with the aluminum parts! Been watching this thread since the beginning. I think you need some lights on that Bronc. Maybe just rock-lights underneath, but, I think you should add a BUNCH! Front, rear, top, under, etc.... |

I've got the grille guard lights but I'd love to light this thing up like a christmas tree! I've had my eye on (pun intended) a vanquish bar with the Cree inserts. If I go away from the bronco body I may go that route.

After reading a thread over in electronics, I have been tossing around the idea of going FPV. It would allow me the same distance view at all times, would keep me stationary while the truck is on the rocks, and since my vision is at its best up close (which still isn't great) I have a better chance of seeing small obstacles that I would ordinarily miss. When N8 and I went out Sunday, I found that I could not read the terrain very well and was having a hard time knowing where to step and also where to point the truck. I ran the center of the axle into every rock at Little Beaver State Park at least once in the ten minutes that Buster was running under is own power. I felt like a noob having to continually back up and try again at every obstacle. I have seen a few FPV quadcopter videos and I like the view that the camera picks up, and I think that this may be a useful tool. Once I get the lights installed I will be able to drive after dark using the goggles and really mess with the neighbors and the local wildlife.

That might be just the thing for ya my friend. I've watched a few videos of the fpv and it looks really cool. I think having lights on the rig will help considerably. When we went to the park we were under a canopy and it was quite dark. It was probably not the best conditions. I believe after you light her up it will make all the difference.
