Also posted this in the newbie section but it looks like no one uses that area much not many post. so i'm new to this rock crawling, I enjoy it i purchased the Maxstone 1/5 by exceed cost $300. I got it an ran right out the box but 40min into play the front servo wont go left under load but if i pick it up the wheel goes left no prob! hers my question is it worth investing in a new servo that cost $119-$179 on a $300 rig? an for competition crawlers what's the most common size some say 1/8 an some say 1/10. thank to all in advance should i upgrade everything over time? Not worth it. 1/10 is by far the most popular. Don't buy another Exceed.

Also, starting multiple threads in different sections about the same topic is an invite for harassment. Just sayin'.

Upgrades like servos, motors and electronics are something that can be moved to other crawlers in your future, and always nice to have around. I'd say if you really enjoy crawling, and see yourself sticking with it, then get a decent servo. I don't think you need to go the full $179 route though. | |

REALLY good servos can be found for $75-90 or less. Search "cheap servo" on this site and you'll see.

I don't own any 1/8 scale stuff but, I believe they both use the same size servos. 1/8 sometimes have 2 servos in a few of the builds I have seen. As for which is better: What kind of terrain are you crawling? |

Take a look at what others in your area are running, size-wise. As for Axial, I love them. But, I'm not particular about any one brand. I have a couple Axials, a Traxxas (non-crawler), and I'm building a Berg-based super. I worry more about parts support when I break stuff. |

The servos that come on RTR kits usually don't last. Servos are mostly standard in size but you should always check dimensions to be sure. I have 4 vehicles and can swap all but my oversized Hitec 7980 from rig to rig. The Maxstone is a waterproof crawler so get a waterproof servo to keep that capability. I recommend a waterproof Savox for a good price/quality balance. Personally I use Hitec high torque servos for my crawlers and Savox for my bashers. Hitec can be more expensive but their torque is substantial on the premium line and they are tanks. I picked up my Hitec HS-7980 for $100 new on eBay. There are deals to be had online if your patient and do your homework. If your wanting to free crawl the Exceed Maxstone is fine. Just be prepared to upgrade parts as you go. Send me a PM if you ever want advice or to chat about upgrades. |
