Default Faded red auto paint

I just got a new car that has really badly faded red paint. I have hit it with some Turtle Wax rubbing compound a few times now and in a few spots it's starting to shine a little but not much. Any suggestions?

I bought the car for $50, don't really want to invest in paint for now, but in the future if it holds up. Just wondering if anyone has used something that has a little more action to it.

Maybe one of those "As Seen on TV" products? There's one, I think it's called Nu-Finish (in an orange bottle). They show this guy putting it on a black car in a junk yard. The car has a faded, matte finish. When he puts the stuff on it, it shines it right up. Hey - it was on TV, it must work, right?

Other than that, there's this stuff called "Future Floor Wax". From what I understand, you can get it in a department/grocery store where you'd find the floor cleaners. I've never seen anyone use it on a "real" car, but I have seen people use it on models and RC's to shine up the finish. Might work.

Nothing will save it... Might try this stuff.

This is the best stuff you can get..

The only thing that will fix it is a new paint job..... Thats if the Clear is gone. You might be able to Color Sand and reClear it, but I highly dought it.

It is a single stage paint job, no clear. Like I said it is starting to shine in spots but I have used alot of material and elbow grease to get it to this point. There has got to be hope!!

It is a Scirocco!!! In perfect shape, no dents, rust, just faded paint from sitting in the sun for 5 years. I got it from a guy that had a problem getting it started. He replaced a ton of things fuel pump, spark plug wires, filters, injectors, etc. Then gave up and let it sit. I found it, and offered to buy it. I have always loved them as they can be wicked little sleepers. Messed with it for a day or so, had fuel, had spark, timing was good, compression was wicked, just would not start, figured what the hell moved the spark plug wires around, it fired!! Ran like crap, moved them around again, HAHAHA it runs!! Like a kitten! Real fast too, smokes my Eclipse and seems to handle like a dream. All I need to do now is get it insured, aligned, and licensed. Oh and make it shine a little.

dont get too crazy with the rubbing compound... i have found that Mequires (sp?) Hand Swirl remover works true magic! if you get too crazy with the compound you could actually cut through the paint... keep in mind.. the paint on that car is only as thick as a piece of paper. with any rubbing compound you are esentually sanding the crap off of the top and sanding it smooth... here are some steps for ya..:

1: Wash the car really really good... no dirt anywhere
2: Use a Clay Bar to remove any of the big stuff and what not from the paint
3: Wash the car again to get the clay bar residue off the paint
4: Use Mequires Hand Polish Swirl Remover
5: Wash the car yet again to get any residue that you missed off the car
6: Use a good quality Carnuba Wax...oh say... Mequires
7: Let wax come to a haze, remove with a clean Terry Cloth Towel
8: Go over the car with a Micro Fiber Towel to spead and finish the goodness
9: Believe it or not... wash it again
10: Dry the car off using a terry cloth towel - a clean one!
11: Use the micro fiber cloth towel to finish the appearance of the car...
12: Look into the fender and realize that you look like crap after all that work
13: Take a shower... you smell like dog crap after all that work.

I was a detailer for years.... and still like makin my cars look bangin! Just remember that everytime you do this... (rubbing compound or polish) you are removing paint... to much and you will actualy start to see primer.... thats when it gets spendy!

Cool Car! Here's an idea to make it look purdy

You could try wet sanding it with 2000 grit. Move onto a wool pad on a good high speed buffer with a good buffing compound (3m perfect-it III is my favorite). Then move to a foam pad with a polishing compound (preferably the perfect-it III). That should give you a nice shine BUT Single Stage and Clear Coat has a uv shield which rises to the surface during the paint curing, after a large amount of wet sanding, that layer can be depleted and will not maintain as much of the uv protection, so it would be more apt to fading in the future.

Hey - Ever see that episode of "Family Guy" where Stewie finds a key to a Volkswagen Scirocco in a candy dish? It was on just the other day. Carry on...
