Looks like all you need is a 1/16 vxl and u-joint to mate them to the stock jet drive, mini servo, impeller, radio gear and lipo. Where did you put the weight, up front? was the vxl getting hot direct drive like that, is that why your cooling it?
I got a bag of impellers some time ago. Sickrc has a flex shaft that will work well.
the first set up I did was bout 3 years back. no cooling just haven't wanted to deal with it. piks of how it is today.

as for cooling..mama's boat is all set up.

took a old sink off a crap vxl and did this..

Turtle hit it on the head..it's like rock crawling...in water

Yeah that is the spot. But it does look like the 1/8th inch brass sleeve and the sicrc flex shaft would be your best bet. I am told he actually does a kit for the stock NQD boat that allows it to run more efficiently and better.

It does work with the stock drive and prop, but you need to get a different coupler and modify the motor mount. The motor will also need to be braced as to not break the mount off.

best bet is to go with a KMB it's rated for 20K in rpm and with the bigger motor less heat and fn ton's of tork.

and last time i got props..i had to get a new bank account some poop head stole my numbers..it sucked Hard..Singapore i think. just fyi

Thanks for the info.! Crazy how much bigger that drive is. The NQD will look like one big jet with that in it.

Hey guys, I was going to put up some pics, but apparently you have to pay for that privilege

Anyhow, I just added a couple of pics to my dropbox showing the difference between the hull for the NQD and the one for the KMB. Here's the link, look in the 'Turbo Sprint 410' folder.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qjf05wjcu...SlKFIM1VMGdsua

You can see what it looks like with the KMB in there as well.

Enjoy

Hi all, Turtle says some of you are looking at getting my Turbo 410 kits, so here's some more info for you. This is the best motor to put on the KMB jet in the Tear Into or my Jet Sprint 410, trust me, you do not need anything bigger, I've built dozens of these and sold hundreds of my kits and these motors rule
NTM Prop Drive 28-36 2200KV / 696W (USA Warehouse)

I actually use this 3000kv version, but you need a tx that allows you to turn down the end point on your throttle so you're not trying to overdrive the jet.
NTM Prop Drive 28-36 3000KV / 755W (USA Warehouse)

The reason I like outrunners is that they have more torque and a much better power to weight ratio than inrunners.

If you're only crawling and messing about in little creeks/rivers then you don't need to water cool them because outrunners air cool themselves. If you're going to be blasting around at high speed on open water (boring...) then you can cool them with this:
Water Cooling Motor Mount 30mm cool

If you want to stick with an off the shelf (HK) water cooled inrunner,a nd you can adjust your throttle EP, then this is what you want:
2848SL 3900kv Brushless Inrunner (WaterCooled)

Or you could get this:
S2858-2630 Brushless Inrunner (2630kv) (USA warehouse)
and this:
Water Cooling For 28 size Motor cool

Don't even think about putting a 36mm motor in there, they're way too heavy, and in a boat this small, weight is critical to performance.

You should always run a water cooled ESC, the Traxxas VXL-3M is a good one, or this one from HK, but you need to seal it up:
Turnigy Marine 60A Brushless Boat ESC (US Warehouse)

No matter what motor you use, you'll need a motor adaptor plate and a shaft adaptor.

You only need a cheap plastic geared 9g servo like this, just seal it up well:
Turnigy TG9e 9g / 1.5kg / 0.10sec Eco Micro Servo (US Warehouse)

I do sell KMB jets, but you're better off buying them direct from KMB. I do a kit for them for $35 which includes:
Motor Adaptor Plate
Motor Shaft Adaptor
CNC Servo Mount and 9g Servo
Steering Linkages
Water Pickup Nipple
7 Bar Stainless Intake Grate (You need to cut slots in the bottom of the jet)

If there's anything else you want to know, just ask

Got my order in with Turdhole for a 540.

What setup do you recommend for it?

Ok, the man that likes 'em BIG

For crawling, this is a great motor for the 540, it's an outrunner so it doesn't need cooling:
Turnigy 500 H3126 Brushless outrunner 1600KV (US Warehouse)

To be honest, the best ESC for these boats is the one I make especially for them, I tried a lot of ESCs before settling on this one. It starts out as a helicopter ESC and I make a water cooling plate for it and waterproof it as well. It has a nice linear power curve and a good auto brake (comes on when you release the throttle). Having the brake come on to stop the motor lets the jet reprime quicker after it sucks air. I sell them in my eBay shop for $45 but I could put one with your order for $40.

That ESC is the one I use in all my boats, so it's also perfect for the 410 guys that don't have one sorted yet.

The 540 has 2 big battery trays, I use 2 x 3S 5000Mah LiPos in parallel:
ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 3S1P 20C (USA Warehouse)

The 540 can carry heaps of weight, but, the heavier it is the harder it'll hit the rocks.

Sorry bvrc, I missed your post. I haven't used the aquastar 120 but it has a good rep. It has a brake too, which makes life a lot easier. 120 is way more than you need in a small boat like this but, better too big than too small

Hi Guys, just a couple of tips for ya's.

The nipple on the KMB jet unit body that's near the outlet, where it goes through the transom is a mounting point for their full size servo mount. Don't drill a hole through it thinking you'll get pressure there for water cooling... you won't. I cut it off because it just gets in the way when you're sealing up around the jet unit.

Glue the jet unit into the hull before you glue the deck on, much easier that way.

MAKE SURE that you use CA to glue the stator into the stator housing... nothing else will stick well enough with this plastic!!! I scratch the plastic up a bit with sandpaper on all mating surfaces first as well. BTW, the stator is the thing like a plus sign and the stator housing is the piece that screws onto the transom

Try to find a hardware store that sells Soudaseal CL. It's a co-polymer sealant adhesive that's crystal clear and has a much higher bond strength than silicone. It really is the ducks nuts for glueing the jet unit in and the deck onto the hull.

The boat likes weight way back, I put the battery tray right in next to the jet unit on one side and as far back as it'll go and I use a 3S 2200Mah 35C LiPo. Then I put the ESC and receiver on the other side out wide to balance it out. Moving the ESC forward and backward should then let you find just the right COG to get top speed and stay on the water. With the KMB jet in a little boat like this, you really need to get the balance perfect to get the most out of it... it's a like putting a supercharged V8 in a shopping trolley

The double ended water barb is for the inlet and it goes in the pre-drilled hole in the centre above the steering nozzle. You'll need to make a hole somewhere for the outlet barb, I don't drill that hole so that you can put it wherever you like. When drilling through plastic, I run the drill backwards so it sort of grinds/melts it's way through, you'll get a neater hole that way.

If you have any questions at all, just gimme a holler, either here or you can get my email from Turtle.

Here's the link to my dropbox pics again:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qjf05wjcu...ETSyy2qHQAzlHa

Have fun

Oops, forgot an important tip... the first thing you do when you unpack your KMB 28mm drive, is you find the white ring shaped spacer that goes between the jet nozzle and the stator housing... and you throw it in the bin! All it'll do is jam up your steering as soon as it gets the tiniest bit of grit or sand in there.
