Default Re: Colorado Rally Championship 2014

Joined this site just for this race, I have been watching the previous 2012, 2013 Rally threads and have decided I want to try this. I'm going to buy a 1/10th scale Rally, is the Traxxas the best intro Rally? I currently race a 22 Buggy, stock, and mod, a 22SCT, TEN SCTE and 1/8th scale RC8. Rally is always something I have wanted to try and can't wait to make it to one of these events. Will most of them be up North?

Thanks
Tony

Good to have you! The Traxxas is actually not 1/10th scale, despite what the box says. That vehicle would run in our exhibition class at the end of the days racing if time permits. The premiere class we run is Group B or the 1/10th scale open 4wd class. The best vehicle for the class seems to be the Tamiya XV-01. There are several threads in the Rally section that detail the strengths, weaknesses and what needs upgraded for the kit.

Personally I race a Tamiya XV-01 in Group B and love it!

Brush up on the rules a little and if you have any questions just let us know.

-Ty

P.s. Oops! Sorry I missed the part about up north. Yes it looks like most of the tracks will be in the Denver area.

alrighty boys, I just got my work schedule through november. As it stands, I should be able to make the first two races.
Looks like I have to get a rally car.
I'm selling my 1/16 revo, an old rustler, and a mini-z lot... All of this should translate into a solid xv-01 project.

@ Turtle, to continue our rear shock discussion from Sunday, Will these 75mm shocks fit in the rear of the xv-01. I remember you mentioned I needed to pay attention to the shock diameter?

The specs from the site:
Length (Mounting hole to hole): 75mm
Shock Body Diameter: 14mm
Spring Diameter: 19mm
Spring Length: 40mm
Full Shaft Travel Range: 17mm (without Rubber bump stop)
Shaft Diameter: 3.5mm

....
See you guys soon.

It will be great to have you out!

As for the shocks... Maybe. I need some calipers and I can check what mine are... I will grab a ruler and can at least give you a rough idea of what I have now.

Ok I got a pen that has calipers on it. I don't think these are very accurate, but the pen said:

Rears
Eye to eye: 69mm
Stroke (shaft travel range): 14mm
Spring length: 43mm
Diameter: 11mm

Front
Eye to eye: 58mm
Stroke: 13mm

So from these numbers it looks like those will work in the back. My only concern really is the shock body diameter...

I am running the Gmade XD Areration Shocks

62mm front & 75mm rear
Shock Body dia.= 14mm
Spring dia. = 19mm

I used a couple of small spacers that came in the kit to get the rear shocks to clear. the front fit but they are really tight next to the gear cover. I can only use the outer sock position on the lower control arm in the front. if you folded a piece of paper 3 times it would barley fit between the shock spring collar and the gear cover.

Last edited by BasicMods; 10-03-2013 at 03:07 PM. Reason: wrong front shock size

I have had a couple questions come up regarding lights for the Night rally on November 16th, so here are the rules for lighting for this event.

Colorado Rally Championship lighting rules:

-Some type of lights are mandatory at the night race only. Which will take place November 16th at the 40th St. Raceway.

-At least two lights in the front of the car and two red lights in the back must be used.

-No white or super bright lights can be used in the back of the car. Turn signals are the only irregularity to this rule, but can not continuously flash during racing.

-No roof mounted lighting (The only exception in Class 7).

-Front light bars/ light pods can be used on the cars, but the bottom of the light(s) can be no higher then the bottom of the windshield. (The only Exception is Class 7).

-Lights should be mounted on the front of the car.

-Headlights and light bar/light pod lights can be either white or yellow in color.

Do the Vaterra Kemora cars not really fit into any class? Or would they be at the end of the day time permitting with traxxas?

Yeah they don't fit in any of the current classes. But after all the racing is done for the day you are welcome to try it out on the tracks.

Sounds good. Was looking at getting one fairly cheap, but don't want to spend the money if they don't really fit in. Thanks though!

If you are looking into getting into other classes we race besides the 10th scale 4wd and 10th scale 2wd you might want to look at the HPI Mini Trophy Trucks. They are pretty inexpensive and can take a real beating.

Would Axial's NVS system count as continuous blinkers blinking? The NVS turns the blinkers on when you turn the car left or right (basically continuous during a race). Is this allowed? They are not actually blinking continuously but they kind of are.... ? oh wait, do you only mean continuos blinking with regard to white leds?

Yeah on the last part. Basically putting some kind of white or bright light on the back of your rig strictly to blind people is not allowed.

Even if it is funny.

Its never too late! Anyone at any point in the season regardless if it is the first race or the last race is welcome to come and and have some rally fun.

We don't have a pre registration for any of the events this season. Just show up pay your dues, sign up and you are ready to go.

We are still planning to have a stage rally this season. So I ask that everyone look at the list of numbers on the first page and let me know which number you would like. Please be advised numbers 1 thru 5 are reserved for last years top 5 drivers.
