| Watts - whats the deal?
Can someone help me out with something that I'm not sure about... Right now I'm trying to choose between two brushless motors, one is an inrunner and one is an outrunner. Both are both are about 2000kv and are big torque monsters (Mr Holmes' outrunner is called the Revolver S TorqueMonster after all) But my question is this: The Outrunner is 450watts and the Inrunner is 1350watts...!! why such a big difference and what difference does that make to the guy pulling the trigger on the radio? Any help welcome, Thanks |

Losi - I have yes, but I just wanted to get a handle on the Watts thing, as the revolver is a big torque motor from what I can gather so I didnt think there would be huge difference, and they both spin at about the same rpm. So just wanted to see if any could explain the big difference in Watts power DRTMI - Yes mate, its for a big truck I'm building, about 18" WB with 40 series tyres, I figured 1/8th scale gear would be the way to go. |

The HW motor is twice the weight, thus the higher wattage. Inrunners generally handle a bit more wattage as well, as the thermal path from the wires is more efficient.

Watt is the SI unit for power. In motors it represents torque [Nm] times angular velocity [radians/s] (rotation speed). |
