Default DIY Battery???

I know its possible. I know how to wire it up to get my voltage. What im wanting to do is cut apart my oem losi mini 7.2v and stack the cells a different way and shrink it back up.

My main question is. What do i use to shrink it back up?

Shrink wrap tubing. Find tubing with a big enough diameter to slide over the pack.

If it's the NiMH pack then any large shrink tube will work. It's hard to find though. When I used to make my own packs years ago I just glued the cells together with CA then wrapped the pack in electrical tape. The biggest thing was making sure your competitors didn't see what cells you were running. I remember when Sanyo came out with the purple ones with a lot of capacity (for the day) and those of us that could get them didn't want the other guys finding out what we had.

Another thing, when you solder your tabs to the cells you'll want a very stout soldering iron, at least 50 watts to make sure you don't spend the entire time just cooking the cell while you try to melt the solder to the end.

you could probably find something here that would work. just find the width that best suits your finished pack size.

Here is another place, scroll way down to the "pack shrink"

+ 1 on the electrical tape. ive gotten into the habit of even wrapping new lipos in et. works good and you can wrap tite and it holds up and helps to protect against the elements. you can even 1st wrap in clear package tape then wrap in et. the good thing is that batts dont really need to breath as they shouldnt get hot, just warm to the touch.

and + 1 on solder very well

you can get the shrink for it but why buy it when youll usually have all you need sitting in a drawer in your home/garage

Awesome tips. Thanks everyone. I am very familiar with solder. I do marine electronics for a living. Only soldering gun I use is gas. She gets as hot as you want.

On another note. I am going to try and take apart a battery I already have. Has anyone done this? Any tips on that?

If they are NiCD/NiMH then you shoudl be able to carefully remove the glue between them in the pack with an xacto knife. Sometimes the cells are shrink wrapped each, then you can just cut that off and go from there.
