Question Help with clod stall and dual ESC setup

My rig:

XR10
Dual FXR (identical setup)
55t (identical)
14t pinions
Novak "The Dig"
3s 1300mah 20-30c
CCBEC
Hitec 7955tg
3PMX

How is it possible to have clod stall even with dual ESC's? I was of the understanding that dual ESC's would prevent clod stall. While I haven't seen any MOA's with dual batteries, surely having a separate battery for each esc/motor combo would solve the issue? (Instead of running one 1300mah maybe two 450mah or so?) Or is a proportional dig (eg 4PL or WantAMix) the proper solution? I always planned on eventually getting the 4PL but if I can get away with dual batteries I 'd prefer to go that route instead (for now at least).

Is my way of thinking correct here?

Dual batteries is NOT the solution nor is dual ESC's by themselves. Choices are:
-Different pinions front vs. rear.
-Radio or adapter that allows proportional mixing.

On the cheap end, do a hacked GT3B or GT3C so you can dial in a bit of overdrive to one end or the other.
Slightly more is a Futaba 3PM-x with a WantAmix to dial in some proportional.
After that, the price jumps quite a bit more.

Or.....

Deal with it.

You "may" be able to do slightly different settings between the 2 FX-R's, but it's not perfect. Your thought is sound, reality sucks though.

Dual batteries won't help, with Castle ESC's you can turn the rear ESC down to 90%. Not sure if you can do that with the FXR's or not. IMO the common one tooth smaller in the rear doesn't help with your setup either, it makes it a little worse. FWIW I run an XR10, twin 55's, the "dig" and two sidewinders. I have the same issue and plan to swap back to the same pinion and turn my rear ESC down later this weekend, gotta finish smashing them first.

Guess the 4PL will have to be ordered up.

That's your best bet if you can afford it. Turning the rear down 10% on the ESC seems to have helped a ton, I'll report back after I hit the rocks this evening.

I'm running an XR with 13t pinions on 35t motors with 3s and the only way I can stop clod stall is by driving the front at 5% faster than the rear. I run a hacked GT3B and it's setup for proportional mixing.

If you plan to keep that radio, you'll have to do as Charlie suggested to get proportional mixing.

Something cheap to test very easy is stick a 13t pinion in the rear of the truck and see if it helps. That could give you just enough difference in speed to keep everything happy.

If you have two motors, you WILL have motor stall. You can try to minimize the effects, but you'll still see it...

BTW, if you have dual FXR's why do you need that Novak Dig unit?

A dig unit is only needed when you are trying to run that setup with only one ESC.

3pk can do mixing, 3pmx can't. He either needs the Novak dig or a wannamix with his radio. Wannamix should do what he wants cheaper than a 4pl. You might try running the rear ESC with some expo, running the rear at 90% seems to be the ticket for me.

For clarification, the "dig" splits signals between two ESC's and sends a neutral signal to one when digging.

I'm experimenting between the rear dialled down to 80% and 90%. I don't think I'l try diff pinions, but the expo might be worth looking into. I've both ESC's on a linear curve at the moment, with the radio's 2nd funtion set to the steepest expo.

I have both a 3PM-x with a WantAmix & a hacked GT3B.
Both do what I need with dual ESC's, the GT3B does it better & cheaper.
Both set-ups are better than ANY dig unit with dual ESC's or dig with a single ESC.

I would take a look at your calibtation on the fxrs . Your not going to eliminate the stall but the stall is usually from the rear motor. i would recalibrate the esc at the same time.
