Default Tekin FXR wire connection issues.

I am having trouble soldering the wire to the "gold" posts of the tekin fxr. I am using 60-40 rosin core solder, I have used electrical cleaner on the posts and even some really strong metal cleaner, but it sticks to the wires great but come right off the post with little to no effort... it will never hold up to the abuse of an rc... what do i do?!

Sounds like your not getting the post hot enough and getting a cold solder joint. I've soldered up many FXRs just fine - the notch at the top holds the wire perfectly.

If you are using a soldering gun you will never get the posts up to temp. You need at a minimum of a 40W iron not a gun.

Like he said, guns suck... a good iron will take car of this pretty quick and they are worth roughly 10 bucks! I got a Hobbico 60w and i never had any trouble with that one.

Are you tinning your tip, the post, and the wire before you try to make the joint? If not, do so!

Are you using flux? If not do so!

If you must use a gun, zip tie the trigger down and let it warm up a good 10 minutes then solder.

10 minutes non-stop with a soldering gun will burn the tip straight through.

I was using a soldering gun with no flux... I went up to radio shack and bought a 40W iron, some flux, and small rosin core colder. applied flux, and the solder stuck to it perfectly. Thanks for the tips everyone! I have never needed to use flux before. I had no idea how nice it made it!

Flux is awesome stuff! Just be sure to wash your hands immediately when done working with in and don't eat while using it. It is lead based.
