Default Motor problems????

Ok, not sure what my problem is so I was hoping someone here would.
I have a scx10. It has a tired 20t motor (had). I noticed over the last 3 uses it was smoking and smelling. I also noticed that it was getting weaker with every use. But mostly in reverse.
So I replaced The tired 20t with a tired 55t. Using the same electronics and same pinion. The only thing I changed was the motor.
Now the 55t motor is doing the same thing. In fact sometimes on flat ground it will not even reverse at all. Just hear the motor whine.
I have tried 3 different batteries. All 3cell. I also have noticed there is a short in the main power line going to the esc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First would be to check the drivetrain for binding. Binding is heat which kills motors. I would loosen the motor and spin the driveshafts & axles. A tight pinion/spur mesh is also a bind.

Check motor brushes, if the motor is rebuildable, the brush spring should NOT be at the bottom of the brush hood slot. If it is, the brush does not have enough tension.

Also check the motor bushings/bearings, they may need some lube.

Since it's been smoking/hot, the armature may be damaged and will only get worse.

Oh, and fix the wiring short.

The trans spins freely. The motor has a bind or something when I spin it by hand. I does not make sound when I spin it but I can feel it click or pop. It goes from easy to spin to this "click". almost like its binding inside the motor. I count 6 click or binds in one revolution of motor.

Is this normal for a 55t motor?
