Default Hand wound versus machine wound motors?

Is there any real difference between a hand wound and a machine wound motor?

Yes. Depends on use.

If you want a nice, smooth, better torque, better effectiency, longer lasting (with proper maintance) motor then get a hand wound.

If you don't care that much about performance and are going to run the motor in mud/muck whatever, get a machine wound.

This is one of those things that machines do not do better. Like musical instruments, some things are just better when they are hand made.
