| Fried Hitec 5955th, was the bec to blame?
AAAARRRGGGHHHH F##K ..... Somehow I think I have fried my 5955 servo !!!! The steering became "twitchy" so I picked it up and the CC Bec led which is normally solid green was flashing really rapidly and then faded out. No steering, so I unplug and plug back in and get green solid light and normal steering and I get 5-10 minutes runtime before it happens again, This time I unplug and plug it back in and bec led was flashing again and white smoke starts pouring from the servo back plate which now has a molten plastic bulge in it. The BEC's led is now Solid green again and appears to be working fine with analogue HD servo I have. The CC BEC instructions do not mention "flashing" led !!! Hitec Servo now has no response at all... dead Anyone seen this before ? Is the BEC safe? I don't want it to fry my next servo or was the SH servo from eBay a dud ? Now i have the best reason to upgrade !! Anyone know the best place to get a 7950? |

Wow, smoke from the servo...not sure I've ever seen or heard of that. Just a guess at this point, but it sounds like the servo was bad. I would send it into Hitec and see what they say. Might be the sweet deal you're looking for on a 7950...straight from the source.

Could be! I just tested the bec voltage output and it is reading the correct set voltage of 6v... Hmmm does anyone know a Hitec service agent in Australia ? |

More likely you fried the part of the board hitec refers to amplifier. If you move servo arm manually does it feel normal? If not you fried the motor also. Both of these are from stalling out the servo. You can help from this happening by turning on the overload protection in servo by using servo programer and setting at 10% or more. This will cut power by % you select when servo is stalled. You are going to have to print out sheet on hitec web site. Fill out info.... Put servo, paperwork and copy of receipt that's under 2 yrs old and send to hitec in the states. Also I'm sure you have to send money order for return shipping. All is stated on their web page.

Thanks JokersWild that's really helpful info. I think the motor has gone, it does feel different in each direction. I have bought a programmer and going to pick up my new 7950 tomorrow woohoo !! so I will set the overload protection as you describe. Unfortunately I bought the old servo on eBay sh so no chance of a warranty !! Lesson learned |
