| Trying to save a really unballanced lipo
I was working on my Trophy Wraith and it was going a little nuts. I tried charging the battery and found the issue. 4.2 , 3.2 , 2.2. I would say a little off. So after several hours on my balancer I decided to try another approach. Checking the voltage I found the highest cell and connected my trusty Brood 45t handwound. So after about an hour of running and the voltage only dropping a little, I decided to try and speed things up. Into a bowl of water. If they break them in with water maybe I can wash this one out ( again first time it has EVER been cleaned. I might have used air to blow it out, but thats it). First shot in the bowl. Background on this motor. It was the first high end motor. Purchased around 2008. Never once has it been cleaned, turned, had brushes, oiled, or even looked at. It just runs. It had seen life in my Berg with 4s, and then in my super with 4s. She keep running. I hope EddieO does not see this, i am gonna try and send it back and claim a warranty repair. After about 6 minutes. The voltage is down enough to put it back on the charger and see what happens. But think the moral of the story would be how filthy the motor was and how well she kept working. Now that it is clean, I would say almost new, I might put it back into the Berg when it gets rebuilt the night before Nationals. |

I may be wrong here, but I don't think that's dirt your looking at. I think it's the graphite from the brushes.

| Re: Trying to save a really unballanced lipo So your saying it would NOT be covered under warranty? Quote:
I know its not dirt, but there had to have been 1/2 an ounce of copper in the bottom of the bowl. I should have taken a picture it that. completely covered in copper. | |

You should recycle all that copper. You should really put the battery in that lipo sack instead of setting the motor on it. Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2 |

When I got my LiPo's, one of the four packs was a little off. I soldered some short pins (sections of paperclip, I think) to an old battery lead and charged each cell individually through the balance tap. That one's now my go-to pack. Of course, charging three individual cells (even at 2C) wouldn't save you much time over the setup you've got going. Carry on, I guess. Congrats on finding a new motor in your cereal bowl. They don't include kewl prizes like that in oatmeal boxes, sadly. . |

When I end up with a unbalanced lipo, I bump it on NiMH setting for 30 seconds and check it. And do it again till the lowest cell is up to 3v or so and then balance an charge.

once a cell drops bellow 3v i usually just NiMh charge it over 3 and then balance it, but they dont last too long after that
