Default Hobby power/ EZRun issue

I recently bought a hobby power 60a esc for a project and when I installed it, it felt really laggy. I used the programmer to reset the punch control but afterward it was still bad. Hobbywing oem esc's have 9 levels of punch control and this one (the hobby power re-badge) only goes to 4. Is there any way to access the punchier levels on this esc? Thanks for the help!

Did you swap some wires around first just to make sure that isn't the issue?

The motor is running the correct direction and the issue is in forward and reverse.

I swapped two wires on mine and it fixed it.

Is it sensored? Wiring matters if it is, no matter if its all going the proper direction or not.

Usually on those the punch control is programmed into the firmware and there isn't much you can do about it. If it only shows 4 levels, that's all you get. There is a chance that you can reflash it with HW firmware and have all of their settings, but they've been cracking down on clones and installing their firmware will kill the esc. I'd do a good bit of reading on some of the race forums and see what people are doing.

It's sensorless. I only found out that it was a clone/rebadge after I had bought it and asked the seller about the programmer. If I can't sort out the punch issue I'll throw it in my 1/6 sprint car since it spends most of its life between 75 and 100% throttle anyway. I bought it for my Min-E-Maxx project and the low end grunt of the 4300kv 4-pole is the primary focus.

I tried switching the wires and that didn't help the punch issue. I also tried a different lipo and that didn't unlock the other levels of punch control. I have emailled the seller and am currently waiting for a response. What is involved in flashing new firmware onto the esc if I have to go that route? I am leery of "bricking" the esc if I try to flash new firmware onto it but if it continues to perform this way its really not very useful anyway.

You'll need some kind of usb interface and firmware, kind of like a castle link, but made to work with HW speed controls. I know they are out there, but that is about it.

Cool. Thanks Duuuuuuuude. This may explain why the esc was so cheap. So far that is the only difference I can find in this unit and the oem HW escs that I have. I wish it wasn't the punch control but rather another less useful feature that was causing problems.

There are a few cloned ESC's that I've heard of.
Personally I have experience with the Hobbyking - HobbyWing 120 amp ESC

Hobbyking® X-Car 120A Brushless Car ESC (sensored/sensorless)

Is the same as

HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

The hobbywing LCD program box that I have works on my HobbyKing Xcar 120 amp

HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

I can only assume that this one would work as well.
Turnigy Multifunction LCD Program Box for Brushless ESC

The Hobbywing website states that you can program the 60amp ESC with the same LCD program box.
So I imagine that the hobbypower esc, which appears to be a clone of the Hobbywing as well, is programmable with the same LCD program box.

The additional links are for identification purposes mostly. Comparing wire placement, layout and whatnot.
I have no experience with these ESC's firsthand, but they appear to be identical, except for the branding.

HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

Amazon.com: Hobbypower Racing 60A SL V2 Brushless ESC for 1/10 Car: Toys & Games

Turnigy Brushless ESC 60A w/ Reverse prog. (v2.2)

I hope that is of some assistance.

I use the same LCD program box for my Hobbywing and the Hobby Power. All of the functions are the same except for the punch control. I am looking at the HW WP SC8 and some of its clones, is that the same as your Hobbyking 120?
