Default Iron shards/dust on motor can

After putting about 8 packs through my Brushed Integy 55T, I noticed what appear to be either iron dust/shards or perhaps magnet shards stuck to the can. Is this normal? If not, what is going wrong? The motor is mounted to an RC4WD R2D trans and sits right next to the dig assembly. Could these shards be from wear and tear in the dig assembly?

Edit: I should add that I don't run my rig in dirt, mud, or water. It is for pure crawling only.

Motors are magnetic, they will pick up anything and everything that has iron in it... Even if you can't see it.

I know that. What I'm worried about is the source.

I had an r2 and noticed the same thing. It was shards from the r2 stripping. Replaced the gears then the same thing happened again

That is what I was afraid of. I wonder if a different grease would help.

I'm with lemonhead.. brush and comm dust. If its around the end bell area of the motor? I don't run any dig and it sounds the same from all my motors, brushed motors..

Around here, if you run in the sand washes, the motor will pick up every shard of iron ore in the sand. It will fill a motor in some places.

Just a thought

I doubt its brush or comm dust.....very little if anything in a brush is magnetic....copper in the comm isn't magnetic either

You either are picking up rocks, sand, etc that contains iron, which is pretty common or something is grinding producing metal shards....which happens as well.

Cause it's probably from that. Gears were too soft in those things and the dig parts wore out quickly, also.
