Take a look at the light controllers from HeyOk. He will also build LED strings if you pm him.

You really don't need to run from a separate battery. You can use an unused channel on you receiver to power the LEDs.

Pm CRAWLER-DAD. Not sure if he has any left but he was making some headlight led strips.

lighthouseleds.com sells prewired 12v ready led's (will work with 9v). They are cheap, and good shipping rates.

This is a dead link. It takes you to "Go daddy" domain search. Bummer.

that's probably because he is getting free advertising on RCC through that sig, and isn't a vendor. I would use one of the vendors here.

I am looking into making my own LED kit as well and started searching after I bought some 12v prewired ones. But you are saying a 9v battery should cut it?

Is their a benefit to running a light controller over just wiring them to a on/off switch?

Yes, Depending on which controller you use, you can get working brake lights, turn off head lights going forward, reverse lights.

You can also get a on/off switch that is controlled by a channel on the radio.

Check out HeyOks thread in the vendor section for different controller options.
