What would be the smallest gauge wire to use safely when wiring the motor to the ESC?? And for wiring the battery (2s & 3s) to the ESC ??

What components do you plan on using?
What application are you using them for? Crawling, scale, ultra 4, TTC, racing?
See a lot depends on what your using it for. Example you can get away with 18-20ga to the esc with a crawler but would not work so good in a racing application. The more info you can give the easier it is for someone to help you.

I'll be wiring up a ROC412 to a RS Gen2, was thinking of using 16awg for this.
I will be running 2s & 3s for batterries, will 14awg be enough or stick with the 12awg
will be trail running, crawling, G6 kind of running.

The 14 ga. wire is marginal for use with the ROC412 doing trail running. It is going to depend if you are going to punching the throttle a lot, how long of runs you are planning and the quality of the wire you are using. Better quality wire can carry more current than lower cost automotive wire.

I have a ROC412 in my SCX10 with a MMP and I am using 13ga. silicon insulated wire. It will get up around 110 degrees after running a 5300 mah pack.

Here is a link to where I am buying the 13 ga wire.
13 Gauge

They offer a 3 color package that gives enough to do 1 or 2 brushless setups.
