| I got a question about 3s batteries
I was looking at buying some 3s batteries, and all I can find are soft packs, I want some 5000mah 3s hard case Lipo's and the only ones, I found are twice the size of the 2s 5000mah, I got now, So do they make 3s batteries that are same size as 2s and are hard cased, I'm not paying over $70.00 for each lipo either. And not sure if want to buy cheap lipo's and have to replace them quickly.

Since going from 2S to 3S with the same capacity will normally enlarge the battery 50% more in size. If you want a same size battery, you must cut on the mAh rating. But you will have a net capacity in Wh pretty similar! |

Venom makes a 3300 mah hard case lipo that work really well. I'm in Canada and you will not find too many decent 3 cell lipos for much less than $70.00 I was a die hard Thunderpower guy, but all my TP packs stated to puff. Have not had any of the red cased Venom puff yet. They have a little lower discharge rate but still great packs

Is it critical for you to use hard case packs?

I seen a bunch of 5000mah 3s lipo's , that are small cause they are for helicopters, and they are 30c to 35c discharge rated, just that they are soft packs, I didn't think you wanted to use soft pack batteries in a rock crawler/trial truck. cause I seen two lipo's short out and catch fire one was in a parking lot watching a group of r/c's drifting and one of them ran over something and puncture the battery and it went up in flames, the second I was out crawling at a popular spot and one of the other guys r/c took a nasty roll and drop and it shorted out and it took a while to reach it just as it went up in flames too. So that's why I paid a little extra to get hard cases for all of my 2s Lipo's. I guess if the soft pack lipo was securely mounted, I should be ok with some reasonable priced soft pack 3s lipo's correct ???? cause I seen some Gen Ace 3s lipo's at a good price.

I want use a 3s in my Toyota build cause its brushless and I got a winch and lights and want to see how the battery lasts, and how the performance is before I buy a bunch of them to replace the 2s lipo's I'm using now. The $70 batteries were the Venom 5500MAH lipo's and hard packs, I'm not paying that when a 4500MAH to 5000MAH in soft packs will work for a lot less money

I've had zero issues with soft packs in my rig. They just have to be secure. Mine has rolled down hills more times then I care to mention. I happen to run two smaller lipo's instead of one big one...two 2600mah 4s. I tried using one hard case 5000mah, but it was huge and heavy. It broke free a couple of times during roll overs, so I'm not using it anymore.

| Re: I got a question about 3s batteries SPC Racing has a 4300 mah 3s hard case that is the same size as a 2s pack for only $43.95 with your choice deans or traxxas lead. I have 4 of their 5000mah 2s hard case packs and I'm very happy with their quality.

Keep in mind goin from 2s to 3s specially in crawlers you will get more run time from the 3s cause your not into the throttle as much..ive found a 3300 3s to last as long as a 50002s in my scx10..

All lipos are created equal. There are 3 lipo manufacturers in China. Hobby people, thunderpower, even gens ace buy these batteries for cheap and slap a label on there. And your paying for there name. I found a 3s 2500 mah soft pack at hobby people on sale for 15.00. Can't go wrong there. And there small. Like heli or plane batteries. |
