Default Need some 3rd channel modification advice

Hey all,

I have a HPI TF-40 3 channel radio that I use for my wraith. I just bought myself a 3racing winch for it and I was going to modify the 3rd channel 2 position push button to a 3 position switch. I went ahead and removed the switch from the board and took a guess at the wiring but it doesn't seem to work. I hope I just have it wired wrong but figured I should ask before I blow up the radio. It is an on off on switch. I have positive to center and both negatives to the outside posts. It works in one direction but it doesn't seem to like it when I go in the other direction. I guess shorts the radio out and powers down. I don't quite understand why it would be doing this. My old TQI radio I was able to put a 3 position in with no problems. Do the new radios just not like it? Do I have the wrong kind of switch? Help me please!
