Default New Xpert Waterproof Servos

I saw these today and thought I would share. I haven't tried any of the Xpert servos but I have heard good things and they are supported in the US by Viper who has excellent customer service.

485 oz of torque from a HV waterproof servo for $99, yes please!

Only problem I see is that it's 485oz at 8.4v. How would you wire that? My receiver is what...5-6v? They don't show the numbers for any lower voltages. Not that it doesn't sound like a great deal and option for a waterproof servo.

Nevermind....I see that most have a nominal range up to 9.6v or more.

A Castle BEC or straight wiring into a 2s lipo would get you 8.4v. There is some threads on here about wiring a servo directly into a BEC or battery if your other electronics can't handle the voltage.

They have torque ratings at 6v, you just have to click on the servo model for additional information.

Duh, I'm an idiot and didn't look. Forget everything I said...other than it looks like a good option.

Yes, my futaba is rated to 9volts BUT not 10 amps, it can't handle the amps and will shut down.

This allows you to skip the receiver and get the best power to the servo. You still need to power the receiver from the BEC in the ESC though.

I finally ordered one of these (the WR-7701) so I should have it next week. My SCX10 is currently running a Solar 772 which is pretty strong but I don't think it is actually 400+ oz/in. The Xpert should be a nice upgrade in torque and durability. I have some Savox and Hitec servos in some of my bigger, faster cars so I do have quality servos for comparison purposes.

Viper may not be a big name in the crawler world but their support is Holmes level good. Nick at Viper is always on the RC Tech boards for help with tech support and will take care of any problems.

@binaryterror:
I'm pretty sure that amps are "pulled," so if a device pulls, say, 1amp, even if you have a 100 amp power suppy, it will only pull 1 amp. It's kind if the opposite of volts, which are basically "pushed" out. Too many amps of supply is usually not a problem for a component, unless it is in line (series) with something pulling a lot more than it can handle. So the servo may be pulling more amps than the receiver can handle, but on it's own, it would be fine.
Something pulling more amps than a power supply puts out can also be bad.
A 10 amp bec is rated up to 10 amps, it only puts out as many amps as the components it powers are pulling.
Wiring the external bec to the servo and powering the receiver from the esc bec has other advantages as well, and is often prefered.

Cheaper yes but the current versions are not waterproof and reliability is still a work in progress. I have no doubt that it will be a great servo one day but not yet.

I'm really happy with my viper esc's and motors... Hopefully these servos perform just as good.
