| Axial ae-5 question
The ae-5 is rated at 180A, so does that mean that I need a battery with a max amp draw rate of 180A? So like a 3600mAh with a max 50C discharge rating? Thanks |

it means you can use it for up to a 180A draw.. that may be a max burst draw figure...not sure if it means a sustained 180A...you can use any lesser amount without any issues

The short answer is no. As was mentioned, that's MAX capacity, probably the burst number, sustained is likely 90. Highly unlikely that you'll ever get anywhere near that in a crawler/scaler. My rigs tend to average a draw of about 1 Amp (i.e. a 1000mAh battery typically lasts me about .75hr-1hr). That is just the average and it includes all my standing around bs'ing time so it's pretty skewed number, just throwing it out as a base line. Last edited by QuesoDelDiablo; 10-24-2016 at 03:33 PM. |

The most I was able to see with a Wraith w/ 3S & 45T was 30A holding it down on tall, wet grass. 30C & above is a good idea, but not required for a brushed motor. I've seen boaters use 20C batteries on 4074 brushless motors, which are MUCH bigger. Bigger rarely hurts (beyond weight & price), too small can mean shorter run times, number of charges, or even reduced power. |
