You can adjust it. I have played with mine but found the stock setting to be perfect for my 35t motors.

Someone needs to de-case a wp1080. If 2 can be sandwiched together it would cut down on size and weight. The wp1080 has an incredibly strong drag brake as well making it good for comp crawling.

love mine , like ugly said above the stock settings are pretty good, I did go up on the bec 7.4 an just a little more drag brake, very pleased with mine an easy to use card out on the trail, an the price, that makes the deal.

well i just checked the PWM to see or in fact hear the difference in the settings 1 it's loud beep and the factory #4 4K is smooth with no beep sound.I can only imagine#5 16K...

Also free wheeling is interesting to. kind a hesitate when enabled..

What effect does freewheeling have when you're out trailing? I've only ran mines once, but i have that setting off

to me it's almost like a punch setting when... #1 enabled which they recommend when crawling only, it takes like 2 seconds before fwd kicks in just like the 1:1 kind of feel like when you go up hill the shaft turns before the truck actually moves if that make sense.#2 disable they recommend this function, your vehicle can have quick acceleration...like quick response...
anyways i highly recommend this ESC so cool with the added features and the BEC setting is a bonus for those way to expensive servos. So mine set at 6.6V...

Edit: the say enabled is kind like (simulation mode) and can have better linearity during low speed runs and also less heat...

Freewheeling is an electronic term. For crawling it should be enabled. Here is a good quick explanation from "kimmik" over on helifreak. Keep in mind the amount of amps mentioned are not the same as the 1080.

I did have a look there, but the terminolgy was unfamiliar to me.

What type of driving would be best with freewheeling off? Lots of full throttle bursts like if you were bashing?

Enabled crawling.... best to try both you will notice a difference for sure..."thumbsup"

Re: Hobbywing Quicrun Waterproof 1080 Brushed Crawling ESC

Basically it allows the motor to be more efficient at lower points of the throttle curve.... Thus allowing the esc to run cooler. There really is no downside to enabling active freewheeling when crawling.

I'm going to try the 1080 with maybe a Traxxas 21T on 3S in my Bomber. That might be a killer combination and very affordable too (under $100!).

Re: Hobbywing Quicrun Waterproof 1080 Brushed Crawling ESC

I've got a 1080 on the way, pretty excited to try it out on my first scale/crawler. I've got the LCD programming box already for the other hobbywing ESC's i have, I wonder if I could use that to program as well as the included programmer.

Hobbywing's treated me good so far as esc's go. I've got Stock Spec v3.1, multiple Justock XR10, multiple Quicrun 10BL60, multiple Quicrun 1060, and a Quicrun 860. They've all held up well and perform well enough. Just need to make sure the box has the hologram and you buy from a reputable place to prevent getting a fake. I get most of mine from RCMart on their site, or through their ebay account.

I ordered one today to play with since you all made them sound so fun. I'll throw it in something and run it through its paces.

It would be interesting to hear or see a video of someone pushing one so hard that it fails, just to see what kind of abuse they can tolerate.
I wonder if they can take 4s with an external BEC?

I have lots of long hill climbs most of which require good wheel speed to make it up and it's not easy with my bomber, so I plan to put the 1080 and HH 21t 550 to work and I'm not easy on my rigs at all so I'll give a fair go of pushing it to its limits since it's only a $62 setup haha!

I have the newer style hobbywing LCD brushless program card as well. I have not tried it with the 1080 but the older brushless program cards look a lot like the brushed program cards. Let me know if you try it and if it works.

Hobbywing makes some of the best esc's in the industry. No doubt that the 1080 can compete with top class crawler esc's. 80a/400a is an insane amount of power and more than any other crawler esc out there.

Re: Hobbywing Quicrun Waterproof 1080 Brushed Crawling ESC

I should note that if you want to delete the power switch on your 1080 you have to hardwire (solder) the 2 red wires together. Leave the black and white wires alone, they are for the set switch. Make sure to calibrate your throttle before deleting the switch!"thumbsup"

is anybody aware that hobbywing makes the ae-5 for axial? they also make an almost identical esc to the ae-5 for redcat that comes with the e10.
