Hang up and Drive
Nor are they hard to pin down as the cause of a hot motor.

All that black stuff that looks like liquid is actually harde and solid. So this looks like a $50 paper weight I think. Plus in taking it apart I broke what I assume to be a brush. Lesson learned I guess.
That doesn't look pretty.

X2, been great motors on 3S ime.

I'd get this before the Traxxas piece of crap Titan.

TrailMaster Sport 550 - TrailMaster Series - Brushed Motors - Motors
LOL, crispy!

According to the specs that motor should be even better than the Traxxas 21T Titan.

You didn't have much to lose and it's part of a good learning experience taking it apart.

Looks completely toasted (including the commutator and windings) just like I'd imagine. Yes, paper weight. The can might be usable, but needs bearings since it got so hot, magnets also need re-zapped at least to ensue strong magnetic field. I'd just save it as spare can and buy new 550 21T motor from HH like you did, re-gear lower, watch temps closely.

Holmes got back to me...pointed me to their recommendation for gearing down for the bomber, so nothing covered by them and understandably so. Quoted $30 to rebuild + $8 to ship it back to me + $5 to ship it to them = $43 to rebuild a motor I paid $58 for....along with the amount of time it will take to get back to me. Might as well buy a new one...unless someone wants to pay me to ship it to them, it's trash.

Got the $20 trailmaster sport off ebay instead. Let the kid beat on that one.

Get a quote from Holmes for just sending you out a replacement armature and brushes and fit them yourself.

The can has hard epoxy crap all over the inside of it that hits the armature...
