So I just saw this pop up

It has some really interesting features. The wiring is much simpler, the turn signals will only come on in certain situations, it has some clever modular options, there's even a programmable servo output for a winch, steering wheels, or 2-3 speeds.
It would be cool to be able to purchase one in kit form or pre built but seems like its only a DIY project right now, but still interesting.

I actually saw that about a week ago, it looks pretty cool. You can d/l the PCB files and make your own - if you don't mind soldering needle-width chip pins. The bigger DIP chip needs a $50 programmer.

If soldering scares you more than text-editing, the Arduino version might be a better bet. You can use a $2 Arduino Nano clone (or Pro Mini w/usb-ttl adapter) with the same code and edit some text in the code editor.
