Default run servo directly off battery pack

I have a "crawler" that uses a Traxxas ESC, which has a BEC that recently decided it didn't want to work properly anymore. the only thing stopping me from running the servo directly from the 2S battery, is that I don't know what the servo will do before i turn on the ESC and receiver. so, what do most servos do when they receive voltage but no signal from the receiver?

I think the first thing you need to do is verify the servo input voltage limit. Can it handle 7.4v direct?

I'm gonna be buying a new ProModeler, the previous Savox seems to be toast.

Most servos will do nothing, but it really depends on the MFG. If you have any other ESC that works, you can test it out. Power the receiver via ESC and run the servo with the white or orange wire removed from the plug.

I already have one of those, works pretty good in my bomber. But it's far too powerful for this rig, so I'll probably go with one of the less powerful ones

You can power it off the ESC too to see what happens. Just remove the white wire from the plug first.

Anyway, depending on servo, ESC and Tx, some of my models center, some go to one side, some do nothing when turned on. My guess is it's gonna depend on circuit inside servo.

He says he doesn't know, but it shouldn't do anything.
