Default Tekin fxr question

Do those who run a tekin waterproof with dielectric grease and plasti dip? Would it be better off in a sealed box? Any opinions of those who have done either would be greatly appreciated. I知 just not sure what method I should use.

Plasti-dip is one of the worst things you can use when trying to waterproof electronics. Use conformal coating for the board and dielectric grease for the connectors. Plast dip or LET don't bond to the board so if it ever allows any water in, it becomes trapped.

I prefer not having my stuff in boxes, easier access and no chance of water pooling.

Check them out here -

https://www.mgchemicals.com/products...rmal-coatings/

Most people I know use the Urethane or Silicone based. I don't see the Urethane listed on the web site so maybe the Acrylic has replaced the Urethane. The 55ml (1.9 fl oz) will do many components. It will probably harden in the bottle before you use it all up.

And, don't assume because one of the products is silicone based you can just use your local hardware store silicone tube. Totally different formulas.

If you're an ebay user, you can purchase it there, just search "conformal"

Agree with QuesoDelDiablo. Sealed electronics boxes are tough to get totally watertight and by having the electronic components accessible its easy for maintenance/repairs. I use a low pressure air to blow my rigs off when done crawling/trailing and that helps blow any water off the electronics so they dry quickly.

I did some more research this morning. I think I値l order the mg coating off amazon prime since shipping is fast. My kids rigs have the ae5 in them so hopefully they値l be safe. I知 planning on getting a ccbec for three different rigs and I want to try and waterproof everything as best as possible for insurance. Will 3in1 oil be fine for brushed motors? Just to lube the bushings.
Thanks for the helpful replies

It wouldn't be a bad idea to throw a coat on the AE5, those ones seem to be hit & miss on their factory wp treatments.

On the BEC's, you could buy the CCBEC2.0 which is factory waterproofed, or I just use Shoe Goo (or E6000) liberally to seal the ends of the blue shrink wrap that the original CCBEC has on it, then for double protection put a balloon around it (this is what I do and I've never had a problem on rigs that tend to act like submarines...).

Don't forget to do the servos and receivers!

A quick little something that I learned over the years, if you are going to use silicone on electronics and dont know if it is safe smell it. If it smells like vinegar DO NOT USE IT. It has acetic acid in it and will eat copper and lead very quickly. On the other hand if it doesnt smell like vinegar doesnt mean it is safe. Read the instructions or use a proven safe product. Good luck
