Noob question, but I'm looking at picking one up. Did you have to run a BEC with it? For now I'm just running the Stock AE-5 ESC with mainly a 3s, sometimes a 2s

Most definitely, BEC is a must with one of these...what model Axial are you running and what mods and use are you planning for it? One of these may well be overkill in many situations.

I'm confused. I thought you only bought ProModeler now. Why did you choose the 2290 over the ProModeler for that purchase? I'm asking because I'm torwn between those two servos as well as a couple of other models.

I’ve torn up three Holmes running OPIE in the riprap, gears ripped out. I did have an issue with my second PM, it hasn’t failed me, but turning my truck on grass, 500oz couldn’t center it. My issue is simple I’m running a grippy tire, have metal wheels, axles, and big knuckle weights. White Trash raved about this one, and with Erik selling it for $120. I figured let’s see, as it’s 700oz.

I sold my new Holmes replacement for $90, so I spent $30 More, for 700oz
I will add, I’m out running OPIE now and it self centers now, much easier to drive my line now.

I'm looking for a servo for my TRX-4. I think the 2290 would be overkill.

400 to500oz is all you need. The PM or Holmes work well. JRH has a new video with a trx , and the revolver , and his servo.....excellent results for both.

These are my 4rigs, the Yeti has a Hitec7954, the slash 4x4 has a PM420, Bullyll runs the PM470, and OPIE now runs the 2290.
I’ve replaced all my foams with CI , and I need bigger servos since, due to the grip. The Bully is the lightest, but has great turning

Reason behind the PM servos started with the Yeti, it ate 4 cheapie servos, then I spent $100 (first time) for the Hitec, which has 400oz and performed well.
I needed another for the Bully, and the original PM420 v4 was $80., and made locally.I got the second PM470 for the wraith, and then started adding weight, had one issue with the PM, John replaced it, I got a Holmes to try, went thru 3 under warranty, and then just switched to the Savox 2290.

All are great servos, but weight was my biggest issue.
For $100 I will buy the made in FL servo.

No I don't do water...... What i did notice is the cases have 3 o rings, and fit incredibly well. Dielectric grease should be all you need unless you're taking a submarine trip.

RE: Waterproofing electronics...

While I'd like enough waterproofing to deal with wet grass or a slight rainshower while running, I never plan on taking any rigs through my areas waterways.

The water is always fairly polluted around here, and I don't want my rig anywhere near it!

Much of the time it smells godawful, to boot...

I'll tell ya what I'd really like, though - tips on running in the rain and keeping the transmitter from being ruined - and not with a friggin' plastic bag over it!

I doubt any of the servos I have will need me to touch the internals (PM 470, HH SHV500, JX BLS-12V7146, and my cheapy DS3218 - of which the last is the only to claim it's waterproof - yeah, right!)

I have other Hitecs that have been fine. That experience dealing with the defective servo and the warranty claim with Hitec scorned me. I typically can find better for cheaper when looking at other brands.

Does Hitec even have a high-torque, waterproof servo that can compete with the others in this thread (not that these are wateproof, but I prefer factory waterproof)?

I ask for proof because I highly doubt that. Car servos have been around for my entire lifetime. One example is the power break booster which is a vacuum servo. Now, are you talking, specifically, about electric servos?

I couldn't find any Hitec brushless servos that had the same torque rating as the Savox 2290. The closest I could find was the HSB-9381TH, with 2.45 lb-ft (472 oz-in) @ 9V. I have to wonder, though, why would you possibly need 3.6 lb-ft (694 oz-in) of torque in a RC truck? How jammed are your tires getting, and why are you trying to solve it by steering harder instead of driving better? I use a HS-7955TG in my Wraith, running on the ESC's internal BEC at 5 volts, for a relatively-tiny 0.8 ft-lb (150 oz-in) of torque, and I can't remember the last time the wheels didn't turn when I wanted them to.

I honestly think these new super-ultra-ridonkulous-torque servos are just appealing to stereotypical alpha-male oneupmanship. "My servo has bigger numbers than your servo!" That's nice, have fun mangling your entire steering system because you didn't know when to back-up a few inches and try a better line.

OK where's the proof that only Hitec makes electric servos for 1:1 cars?

I don't need 500 or 600 oz-in servos. But when they don't cost much more than standard 300 or 400 oz-in servos why not? I mean the Hitec HS-7955 isn't much cheaper than the powerhouses with sale prices. Why would you buy less for the same price?
