Default RE: Motor and ESC help

I am getting a Losi Rock Rey not quite monster truck or crawler. I am having trouble with the 550 motor size. Can anyone recommend a good motor/esc combo? 2s-3s. Seems this 550 size motor and 4-6 pole gets confusing. Not sure if it is worth the extra $$ to go sensored or not. I have only ran 1/8 truggys for the past few years on and off. Would the Castle Mamba Max setup I have in my 1/8 truggy be too much for this 1/10 scale truck? Thanks.

Check out Team Brood Racing. I made the same suggestion to Arctic Cat ZRT and last I heard he was very happy with the motor.

Here's his thread: Cat's Rock Rey

If you're planning on crawling with it, sensored is worth it. For general bashing, not so much. One of the things to keep in mind is you want a motor with a 5mm shaft for the Rock Rey.

If you were going to run 3S and/or wanted slower speeds, you'd probably want a motor with lower KV. And again, get sensored for crawling.

Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro XL motors would also be an excellent choice...

I have to pay $100 for a blue star, maybe you should do the same!

Done. Now what am I supposed to do about the fact that you quoted it? A PM would've been a lot more appropriate.

Done. It happens all the time and I address it the same way.

If you don't mind undergearing it, a sensorless motor will be fine if you get a decent ESC. An overgeared sensorless motor with a cheap ESC will most definitely cog at low speed. If you were used to a 1/8 truggy, chances are you will not have fun bashing at 5mph.

I'd highly recommend focusing on the ESC before the motor. A cheap sensored motor will crawl fine with a good ESC, but not vice versa. Cheap motors are only 5-10% less efficient than motors 3x their price.

Also be aware that sensored motors are NOT waterproof unless specifically noted. Sensorless & brushed are about 99% waterproof, but not dirty water proof.

It looks like two motor options in 5MM shaft... 2400Kv and 3800Kv.
