| Hobbywing 1080 questions
So, I got into crawling about a month ago and now have a wraith, Gmade R1, everest 10 and did have a capra for about 24 hours (Returned it). So I'm in the game and wanted to upgrade my esc. The Hobbywing 1080 caught my eye my r1 and wraith roll down hills and its a absolute pet peeve of mine. I want those rigs to stop dead when I take my finger off the throttle like my redcat does. The r1 does have a axial AE-5 and the wraith has an older version? I know that there is brushless versions that do this but I want to do this with a brushed motor. Is the ESC my issue or something else??? https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...112750/p564169 |

The 1080 is a simple upgrade from an AE5. The AE5 is basically a 1060, and no real adjustments. The 1080 comes with the programming card, and is easy to set. Drag brake and freewheeling are the two best. Hang up and Drive |

So to be clear this will allow me to put my truck on a 50 degree slope and not have it roll?

Yes, the 1080 has a drag brake which is what stops your truck on hills. It also has a freewheeling feature that when disabled it allows your car the drive slow down hill. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

I have another question about the 1080, will it improve the slow crawling smoothness over the stock esc or crawl even slower?

I believe for smoothness at super low speeds upgrading your motor is key. Anything from Holme's Hobbies will be an upgrade from the stock can, but a Crawlmaster Pro 13t is hard to beat for the price. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk |

| Re: Hobbywing 1080 questions The ESC can make a significant difference in slow crawling. The cheap RTR ESCs I have used only worked well for crawling when the truck was geared/motored to be quite slow overall. Once geared/motored to be somewhat faster the trucks weren't nearly as controllable at slow speeds. When I used the HW1080 (or even the AE-2) the trucks could be geared/motored to be faster and still be very controllable when crawling. That being said, as mentioned before, I noted an even larger improvement in low speed control when I switched to a Crawlmaster (5 slot brushed motor) over a cheap sealed can 3 slot.

Yep, a 1080 and an HH Trailmaster Sport is THE best budget combo you can get IMHO
