Default Help me pick a budget motor for my Marlin

I’m not good when it comes to electronics, I’ve run exclusively rtr stuff my whole Rc life and I want my Marlin TF2 to be better than rtr. I’m on a budget however, plus I’m in info overload on motor choices

I picked up a HW1080 and a 35kg amazon servo to get those out of the way. Someone had suggested a HH crawlmaster sport 16t, but those are out everywhere

I have about 30-40 left for a motor, I know it’s not a lot but I’m excited to be using better stuff for once.

Thanks y’all!

I have had a lot of success finding stuff on eBay recently. I just did a search and there’s a few options there for the 15 turn Crawlmaster sport in 550. I’m not quite what you were looking for but pretty close. Generally speaking it’s typically a longer motor and you end up with more torque but generally a little slower speed than the same number turn motor in 540. That size motor doesn’t always fit without adjustments and I believe most RTR motors are 540, at least the few that I’ve gotten. I’m not familiar with the TF2. I’m sure someone with that truck will know if any adjustments are needed for fit. Also, the homes hobby website has a link where you can select your rig and see what is recommended for motors. I don’t f it factors in fit or just focuses on performance. Also, both options I found on eBay came in around $26 including shipping . Good luck

Traxxas 550 motors are a great option if you have the room

I too have had trouble locating 5 slot homes budget motors. Amain had Brood rebuildable 5 slots on sale so I picked up a 16 turn for mine for $24.

I did the same when it was on sale during Black Friday. How does it run? Mine is still in the box. Life is getting in the way.

I’m running the Reedy Radon 16T 5-slot in mine. Smooth low end with plenty of top end speed.

Probably too late though... 13t is faster but a smaller pinion is better then a slower motor IMO

I've had really good luck with the 2 surpass hobby 10t 5 slot 550 motors I have. They can be had on ebay or Amazon for 24 bucks.

The Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport 550 12T is an exceptionally good crawler motor for $20 and works very well when paired with the HW 1080. As mentioned above the Traxxas Titan 550 21T motor also works well with the HW 1080 for the same $20. But if it comes down to a choice between the two I would go with the HH Crawlmaster Sport.
