The shocks do not work like we are use to when laid down that far. My shocks look conventional but they are not. They are basically a goofy style of Droop set up that i think may work . My shocks currently have internal limiters and internal springs pulling the shock shut in an attempt to help keep the front end squatted during steep climbs. 1000 wt diff oil in an attempt to slow things down a bit. My regular shock set up unloaded too soon. So I'm going to try this set up. This style rig is so unorthodox. It will take me some time to understand what it needs & tune it. Thank you, I will look into the rr mount you mentioned. Any other tuning tips or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to check out my build. -Stick

I love the stance. It needs whitewalls and a rusty body though Good luck in your tuning's.

Great to see this chassis on a berg. One area that I've never been too confident on when tuning my crawlers has been my shocks. To me, it's always been, eh, fill them with somewhere between 30 and 55 weight fluid, throw some soft springs on them and plug and play. This chassis however totally changes the game. Running internal and external springs and limiters with insanely high shock/diff oil seems to be where I'm heading at this point.

[QUOTE=Stick King;4029380]Body off pics & temporary battery mount till I figure out something better. Lipo doesn't fit in the rr mount with links n shocks so close together.

You should try the Rowdy XR axle mount on the Berg. Harvo was the first to try it so I have dubbed it the Howdy mount (Harvo+Rowdy= Howdy)

Thanks Pdog. I'm not sure if I am into this mount or not. I had a similar design made as far as battery placement goes but has a hard time looking at it up front all exposed. So I made a under the hood upper link mount. Didn't like it either. So for now its in the worst possible place for a battery. The chassis :(
I may put my 1st design mount back on to see if I can get used to looking at it. One thing that is nice about the mount u have pictured is its easy to plug in.

Looking good. I have my DD mounted to the XR axles and am waiting for the upper link parts to arrive. Going to try a new idea for these.
Where are you at on weight. I am hoping with some new wheels my XR will be in the 4.5 or less range.

Thing looks just mean and low. Good luck with tuning it all out.

My rig weighs in @ 4.6 lbs. I could still lose some weight if I feel the need.
A few things i still could do to shave weight:
I could turn my motor cans down yet.
I'm running stock heavy lockers but have RC bros light weights in my box.
I could shave my cases more.
I could run plastic bushings here n there in place of bearings.
I could dimple the inside of my cases.
Switch out steel screws for Ti screws and aluminum screws in less stress areas.
I could switch to aluminum upper links or carbon fiber rod link.
I still have some room to trim my body.

If I wanted a sub 4 lb. rig, It is not out of my reach. Question is. What's the ideal weight? So far I'm comfortable with a 4+ to 5 lb rig. I'm not use to a super light rig but I'm willing to give it a shot. I do feel that a well built lighter rig will break less parts.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my build thread. Please keep the comments & or suggestions coming. -Stick

Thanks Stick.
My Viper II Chassis XR10 was tipping the scales at 6.1 lbs, that was with knuckle weights and my "tractor wide" pin tires (I think the heaviest I have).
I just built a Viper II chassis, with some AL fighter axles, but stripped the cab off and dropped an Axial hard line body on there. Ready to crawl she is 4.6 lbs. And I have LOTS of room to go lighter...
My goal with this XR rebuild is going to be 4.0 to 4.5 pounds. So some of the aluminum parts may get the Jenny Craig drill treatment, or I may go back to the plastic parts.
I'll have some pics up soon.. Keep up the good work. Good luck.
