Re: House’s TiDe Fighter 1 Attachment(s) Don’t remember who showed me this tool at Wild West, but I got one last year and I love it. Much better than pliers. |

The 7075 is a surprisingly strong material. These 7mm Dlux rear axles are 7075 and I haven’t seen a broken one yet... Dlux and RCBros are making their Berg lockers out of 7075, SDS was as well, and they seem to last. The Dlux 7mm 4140 fronts are beefy as heck. I don’t see breaking one. Not sure where I am going here, but just thinking about WHITE-TRASH thinking the tubes are too thin and a Super needing to be even stronger. I think 6Al4V cases and tubes would do the trick with the same shafts as this rig, just longer...? I don’t really feel like doing destructive testing, but maybe I should reconsider that...? |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Tom showed me those pliers in AZ so I replaced the losi pliers I'd been using immediately. I showed Erik at BOTW, I'm sure he has them by now. Never admit to thinking about me, Erik gets crazy jealous. :lmao: I hope I'm wrong about the tubes but I don't think I am. That is a stress point for sure. The only reason ssd_lux axles hold up is the truss keeping them in line. |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter I am thinking the weakest point would be the case itself where it is split to clamp the tube, but I sure as shït don't want it to break there either...! My tubes don't have a truss, but then again there is only .003" on each side of the axle shaft itself, so the tube 'could' rely on the inner shaft for support also if it was in a crashing scenario...? |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Relying on the axles to stave off excessive deflection, risky. Better keep them shafts lubed up to keep mr gall away. Personally I'd tie the link mounts back into the case. Anything would help. |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Yeah I don't really see them relying on it, just saying that it would have to bend or break the axle at the same time. I think anything can break at some point... Especially like the tumble Erik's car took last month. That could have been a lot worse than it ended up! How many spare SDS gear cases do you have? Have you broken any? |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter So using a Yield Stress calculator, it says it will take 343 lbs. of force to start bending my long side tube as it is. Hmm... That makes me go back to thinking the case is the weak point... |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter How many sds cases have I killed? Exactly as many as I've owned, none. I'm just a believer in beef because I break shit like it's my job. I hope that's a different calculator than Mr ottman used that told him that beef tubes in the housing and 3 oz of weight in each front wheel was the best possible setup for climbing... You probably won't have any issues since you drive smoothly and with care, 2 things I lack. |

This build started off as porn and it continues to be porn. Filthy! |

Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Quote:
7075 is good stuff so it will likely hold up. Ti is over rated and adds weight in an application like this. With clear eyes this am I think a simple sleeve about 1" long that slips over the tubes and the clamping shoulder would do the trick. It would strengthen the whole area of the joint and not lose any real measurable ground clearance. |

Re: House’s TiDe Fighter 1 Attachment(s) Yes, a little premature, but some wheel porn for you... Dlux carbon solid center flathead rising suns wrapped in Crawler Innovations Double Deuce foams and narrowed Ottsix Voodoos... |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Uh oh Jeremy isn't gonna like you copying his no holes & countersink trademark... |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter krawlfreak? He hasn't logged in for 2.5 years! Ohhh... Stubs! You're right, dang! It's OK, he just has a ™, not a ® ... :lmao: |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter I may drill a small hole in the center for a driver to fit through anyway if my LOCTITE® comes loose... |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter Quote:
 That's what he gets for not registering it. |
Re: House’s TiDe Fighter In retrospect, I should probably go with something more scale to drum up more interest in this build, huh? Maybe some Warn hubs and acorn lug nuts?! |
