Default selecting gears for foff pinion and spur

Ok so my foff is up and running.. running a cheap kit... for now..

anywho the brushless motor is is a 3520kv. Was running a 87t spur and 16t pinion and it was oe so so... on 3s.. jumped to 20t and wow worlds a of a difference...

so with that.. my allen wrench was stripped so couldnt tighten it much and i ended up loosing my pinion gear..

so going to go buy a new 20t to have... but also was going to get a 24t (if that is the largest i can get) or should i go with a 20t pinion and go smaller spur?

im going to buy stuff and run what i got as we are going away soon so need to have stuff in hands..

tried reading through the various foff builds as everyone lists what they are running less gears.. hah...
one guy is using 87/18 though...

on this link..

Robinson Racing Products - The Leader in Gears for RC Cars

with 87/16 = 5.43 ratio
with 87/20 = 4.35 ratio

guess need to know the gear ratio for best foff-in
was thinkin
87/24 = 3.62

I've run 50, 52, 54, and 56 spurs, and pinions from 12,14,15,16,17,18,20 in many various combos. In dry loose beach sand the 50 spur with any pinon ran way to hot. The 54/16 combo was nice, but still ran hot( traxxas veliniun system) My current set up is 56/14 with a Castle 5700 and MMP, I'm sticking with this combo as my temps are now tolerable All 32 pitch.

so 56/14 is 32 pitch? i know i need to get to 32 pitch as 48 will shred eventually.. but for now not going that route as i dont have long till we go...

but your 56/16 is 4.00 on that chart in 32 pitch
54/16 is 3.37 so that partially answers my question... 4.00 is roughly the sweet spot..

lookin for others thoughts too...

Currently 14/66 32p using voltage to increase speed and power. Motor is 2200 kV and is good to 6cell.

66 spur isn't recommended it takes modding to fit. I also have a 56 but haven't ran it yet

56/14 32 pitch gears with a 6000kv 5.5 turn ezrun. it runs a little hot, but with small 1300 3s batteries i only get 5 to 7 minutes run time. having 6 batteries makes it good though.

The spur gear is an associated #2266 if you are looking for one. straight fit, no modifying needed. there is a traxxas spur that fits, bit i think the center needs opening up.

I heated the traxxas gear in the oven and put the slipper in the freeze. Then tapped the two together created s press fit.

yeah the 66 is alittle slow. but with 14 pinon my motor runs into the trans case before the gears even are close to touching.

might just run 6 cell to instead of swapping gears

yeah i ran my 1300mah but wasnt fully charged.. didnt get the run time..
i also have 3 x 500mah - 3s turnigy got 2.5 times around the bases and jumping the pitchers mound... on one.. other 2 werent fully charged and 1 went 50 feet and the other 1 lap...

i have a deans adapter to run parallel so will run 2 x 500mah for now.. need to get the gears squared away and we are going a away for a bit...
but then i will save up for like a 3500 or 5000mah 3s then...

wish i had that option!!!!!!! i went for a 2-3 cell unit..

was driving it around my house in the grass.. and lost the 20t pinion.. my allen wrench is partially stripped so never got her nice and tight... threw a 16t on it and back up and running.. not fast as you all know these things as but...

i took it out to a local baseball field.. nothing to climb i know.. but it was doing good.. it could roost for a bit and just go.... it would go to max speed pretty quick...

While this is up:

What is the tallest gearing (lowest numerically) that will fit under the Axial spur cover? I'm kinda hoping for 28/80, anyone else know if that big of a pinion will fit inside the cover?

im on the same thoughts... i can get 48 pitch locally... so i didnt want to convert to 32 pitch yet..

but i guess ill just buy 2 x 32 pitch spurs... then go to local hs and buy a few pinions ranging around to play around...

installed and I dont think the 56/16 32 pitch is faster than the 87/20 48 pitch...

i definitely need to get a programmer for my esc cuz it is full brake.. no coasting.. so front endo's and also she flips easy...

ok took it out.. 56/19 32 pitch didnt have my motor warm at all... interesting..

but i puffed a 500mah 3s turnigy 20c battery... had 2 in parallel....

just read in franky that his batteries got warm by overgearing..

so i thought i read that if your gearing is over done then your motor will be hot....

if your motor is not hot could the battery have gone puff due to the gearing?

my 1300 3s 45-90 battery wasnt used due to deans plug coming off. so before i kill that battery just need to know..

wow 60t pinion?!?!?!?!?! with a 56t spur (sure yours isnt the spur???) I can only fit the 19t pinion.. i have a 23t pinion but then my motor wont bolt on the motor plate.....

so the ratio.. from what im seeing is 3.50 for the ratio...

my 56/19 gears is 2.94 listed here...
