| Wheelbase Extension
So I thought I would start this thread off since it seems like no one has experimented with this yet. I just got this idea from Derb and thought I would look into it since I agreed with him on the r1 needing a longer wheelbase. So for the last few hours or so I have been looking at possibilities. The deciding factor I went with is the use of the axial wraith links and the longer universal shaft by junfac made for the honcho/wraith. I just put the order in for these: AX30791 Hi-Clearance Threaded Aluminum Link 7x85mm - Grey (2pcs) Ax30792 Threaded Aluminum Link 7x87.5mm - Grey (2pcs) Axa0187 Axial Set Screw M3x20mm Black (10) J90028 Hardened Universal Shaft for Axial Honcho Way excited to see how they work, after seeing another member by the name of TomTom71 and his picture of his r1 with the wraith axles and links I thought it say beautifully, and why not give it a try. I will post before and after pictures once I recieve the parts from CKRC.com and let you all know how it went. Wish me luck |

Awesome mate, very much looking forward to your end results. I think we can make these rigs serious crawlers even though GMade probably never thought about it being a Sportsman class competitor. I might even be able to keep it all shiny like the stock links just by using those set screws and some extra alloy M3 threaded rod. Now I'm gonna be sitting on xmas holidays scheming links all day. lmao, ever since you said something about extending the wheelbase it started making me think of all the possibilities. It sucks when I get into a thought process like this its never ending until I find a resolution of some sort. If it doesn't work I'll be able to use the parts on something else in the future since I might be wanting to build a scaler in the far future.

Just let me know if you want any measurements or pics or anything. I'm definitely on the band wagon for this mod.

| Re: Wheelbase Extension finished?
So I got it all put together, and well its not much of a improvement but its a good one inch longer than it was so I am happy with that. I ended up using just the lower bent axial links made for the wraith, and the upper links were much to long so i stuck with the stock ones. The longer drive shafts fit well, except that I needed to switch out the inner shaft from the original junfac r1 shafts to be able to connect it to the other end of the rear shaft. That won't be in in long since I should be gettin the rc4wd r2 dig transimission tomorow, so that will be my project tomorow. i will post pix for that also when done an such. I already have been using the r2 tranny without the dig and have loved it so far.

Wicked! Spot on with the wheelbase limit of the Wraith too. Thanks for being the guinea pig on this one mate. What part number are they? I can find what looks like the upper bent link, but nothing as long as yours I don't think. Last edited by derb; 12-22-2012 at 04:11 AM. |

hey thanks all I was working on it mojority of last night and was just itching to get it done right and at least get some length to it. The part numbers I used were: 2 x AX30791 Hi-Clearance Threaded Aluminum Link 7x85mm - Grey (2pcs) (ax30791) = $23.98 2 x Axa0187 Axial Set Screw M3x20mm Black (10) (axa0187) = $4.98 1 x J90028 Hardened Universal Shaft for Axial Honcho (j9002 = $33.99 So I bought the axial upper links too, but they were much to long and they pushed my axles forward way to far, it kind of looked cool, but I know it wouldn't of lasted, I think if you want to go longer you could go with the lower links that CKRC has that are like 104mm and then maybe fit on some longer upper links like the axial ones here are the two part numbers: ck3023 CKRC Heavy Duty Middle Bent Links (2) Ax30792 Threaded Aluminum Link 7x87.5mm - Grey (2pcs) (ax30792) Don't quote me on these two working together, but I am sure the lower links will give a much longer extension for them being 104mm compared to the ones i used that are only 85mm. I'm not even sure the drive shafts will be long to reach but its worth an experiment or two to find out. |

So here is the finished product, I would have had some pictures up earlier but I was at work installing the dig on it and just finished up. So here are some pix of it with the wheels and tires.

hey if you turn of the shock mounting points on the axels it will give you about another in inch on both ends. Thats how i did my wheel extension. Only thing is if you have a large servo in the front for you steering you wont be able to flip them unless you shave the arm down a lil bit. Havent done that on mine yet just flipped the rear axel ones so far.
