This is a great question with a slew of different answers. I'm running 2S 60C 3800-4000 amp shorty hardpack packs, because I have some on hand. They sort of fit in the battery tray, sticking out the back a little. They fit well atop the front axle with the optional Gmade axle mount. Smaller batteries will give you more options.

I'm running 3s 1300mah on the axle, about 50c, they last 30 minutes each, I use Scotch extreme fasteners with an o ring.

On my comp crawler I'm running smaller Brood 850 mah 35c 3S, get about 20 min each

I don't want all the weight up top on mine, so I never ran anything larger in size

I was happy with my broods, as I don't comp yet run time is practice. And I can run 3 batt Back to back, no heat issues, just parts failures, but all 4 cvds are gone now
