Dude, that is cool! I know exactly what you mean about the south being barren of rock. It's 6 hours from Tyler to Lafayette.

Eddie, you come on down sometime, I can put you and your boy up for the night. Thanks for the compliments, got about 3/4 of the new rock stacking done today. Pretty happy with how it's turning out.

I concentrated mainly on the area right behind Mt Rid where the black paper was bare, and reshaped the concrete shard peninsula.

This is the stack beside Mt Rid. That's a cool breakover that requires you to shimmy right to get up once you hook a front tire.

Another View:

This is the side view of the same stack. See the straddle that the crawler is on? Notice there are 3 more just like it in this stack. Should make for a huge number of lines to run.

Another view:

Here you can see how it squeezed up close enough to Mt Rid to make nice canyon. I made sure I spaced everything I laid out today so there are canyons between all the piles. There's still room to set up for a good approach on Mt. Rid:

I have some other stuff done, but I ran out of daylight before I stopped so, no pics of it yet. I blame Josh, he brought his new berg rig by today.

Speaking of Josh's new berg rig, heres a few shots of it on the garden for the first time. Nice rig, got some great parts on it, and a 4PK. It still has the protective paper on the panels, shoot a lil paint and it will look like a brand new rig. The bad news is that the Garden worked it over today. Nothing too bad, broke the ear off of his steering servo.

About to drop off the steep section:

We very well might take you up on that. Thank you for the southern hospitality. The new additions look good. Keep up the great work. You should also consider coming to a Houston area comp. The drive isn't that bad from Lafayette to Houston or Galveston. They have a great group of guys and you would have a fun time.

You're right, Eddie. Good group of guys over there. Jeremy and Shelby have been a huge help.
Got some work done today since the weather was finally nice. Got a good start on an area that I have been needing to tend to. The manmade section.
Here's the bones:

Next came the hardware cloth and burlap:

Got the first coat of mortar on today as well. Mixed it very thin so it would soak into the burlap. Just thick enough not to splash.
It's not finished yet, this coat's main purpose is to give a base to work with tomorrow.

The slope next to the electrical box is set at 70*.

Can't wait to see a video. I've always wanted to make one of these. I really like how you based the man-made section off that tree. Its a cool base.

The mortar is just what Home Depot had in stock, nothing special, just Quikrete brand. HTH
I'm having trouble getting the next layer to stick to it so I may just mortar all the small iron ore rocks in place up the slopes over there with dyed concrete.

Here's a link to the video thread. Filming that last video, the rock race trial run, broke my chassis in 2 spots and may have cracked my front case.

Been awhile. The mortar section still looks about the same, still need to finish it. May do that now that it has cooled off down here.
Took about 6 months off from crawling this year, just busy doing other things. The garden sees regular use nowadays though.
Here's a few sequences of Bcampisi's new BJv4 maiden run from this afternoon:

Was working great today Blake, unlike my Photobucket tonight. Have to restart it, will be back in a bit with the rest of the pics.

Got 3.5 more tons of 120 pound class riprap. Some of this stuff is BIG. Looking to make a box canyon out of it. Something hard to escape from once you get in it.
