Default My new Exceed 1/16 shafty

I bought this thing because i wanted to build a trail truck out of a shafty but i didn't want to spend a ton of money. I have heard a lot of bad things about these rigs like there is no parts support or the parts are crap but after about 10 packs i can say that I LOVE THIS LIL THING

I love how small it is and as far as i'm concerned you get a ridiculous amount of value for the money. It comes fully built with water-proof Esc and a 4channel receiver, though the transmitter is only 2 channels. The motor is not fast but has plenty of torque and so far the servo is holding up! It does have shocking amout of torque twist but i think i've tamed it.

To those who own this can you tell me how similar the Exceed 1/16 is to the Losi Mini Crawler ? I'm hoping this thing is a ripoff of the Losi so i can use the same parts. I have a Tekin B1-R on order but i'm still looking for a better motor. I want to build a dig but i imagine a shafty dig is more involved than a MOA dig ? Are there under/over gearing for this thing that drops right in or do I have to scrounge around for parts ?

Anyway here are a few pics.

Only one sprung shock at the moment to test the torque twist control

made a new front bumper, the other was dragging to much

Hey I own one of these its great, I put Axail 8 hole 1.9''rims with Rc4wd Mud Slingers tires off of my Scx10, which are weighted, and I got a small 7.4 volt 2S 1200 mah lipo, and it climbs pretty good for what it is. I bought a traxxas 280 brushed motor, I made the motor mount plate, got to make a wider skid plate to shoe horn that 380 in there, alot more torq and wheel spin would be great. I was going to make it four link front and rear, but maybe go for more power instead, done some chassis mods. thats about it and a different body.and some aftermarket shocks for a losi mrc.

This might sound like common sense but if you increase the dual rate for the esc you get more power ! I just figured it out while messing around with it in my living room

Dual rate adjusts how much movement you get per trigger pull. With dual rate all the way up, if you pull the trigger 100% the ESC gets 100% signal. With dual rate at half (of 50%) you pull the trigger 100% and get 50% travel for ESC. Pulling trigger 50% gets 25% travel for ESC.

I'd set dual rate to 0 (so you don't have any) and recalibrate the ESC to that setting before you mess with anything else.

you lost me, how do you adjust the dual rate I don't understand how to do it, I get what it does but don't know how to do it, there are no instructions on how to do it, please can some tell me how to do it, cause I bought some new 7.4v 2s 1300 MAH lipo's not rx batteries, these are 26 amp lipo's, so I want go full throttle. then maybe tone it down if needed.

It's on the remote near the power switch. There are two knobs one labeled ST.D/R that is for steering the other is labeled TH.D/R that is for the esc. Mine was at 50% when i got it but once i realized the trim was in a different location i started to fiddle around with it.

Ok my bad had to look again, the dual rate is on the radio under cover where on off switch is. seen it there every time I turn rc off and on and never really payed attention to it. I'm not one of those guys that goes, whats this do, tweak tweak ,go the factory settings. I'm more of the guy, if its working good, why screwed it up I don't XXXX with it. run it till it dies, do some tweaking, run it again, more tweaking, more running, sooner or later you'll get er' dialed in.

Made some changes to my lil shafty and she crawls like a pro now. Very happy with it. The only thing i would want is the option to run an open differential in the front axle for my scale rig version of this thing.

Made a center skid plate out of cutting board to triangulate the links and bent the rear links. The front links are made from carbon fiber.

Moved the battery parallel to the length of the rig and made a new radio tray that drops the electronics lower.

Added weight to wheels and the axles.

with those new 26 amp 7.4 volt 2s lipo's I bought and turning up the dual rate it, its got plenty of power and wheel spin now. so much now, it keeps losing wheel nuts and tires fall off. need to buy new axle nuts. I think the stock batteries suck, they don't hold charge very long, and the stock charger takes for ever and still doesn't full charge. I went to lipo's and very happy with the rc now. and the rc4wd mud slingers hook up.

I'm glad messing around with the dual rate helped

I use a peak charger for battery pack so it lasts like an hour but it took a few charges to get to that point. It only lasted like 15min the first few times.

I changed the upper links and made it from a 3 to 4 link. I'm not sure it made it any better but i'll have to fiddle with it.

cool I'm curious if it helps it, I'm thinking its going to have way to much flex, cause I four linked my SCX10 front and rear and it was bad, so I went to three link in the front with hard pan and four link in rear, but the SCX10 is whole different truck, it might not flex too much.

I was hoping it would a difference with the torque twist but it doesn't seem much different.

I see your using the stock shocks upside down. My stock shocks lasted about ten minutes until one broke, so I bought aftermarket aluminum bodied ones for a Losi Mrc crawler, and it took out torque twist, cause I moved the out on the axles, and moved them to the end frame and its gone. I don't if I did it right but it work with the three links.
