Cool. I was looking at that paint the other day at the LHS wondering how it looks. Now I know. Too bad I'm stuck dead flat khaki colour on my bug. Did you paint it on the inside or outside?

Painted on the inside, and you gotta be careful, when it comes out of the can, you can hardly see it laying down. I over-sprayed, and it caused a run right around the beltline, that's why all the racing stickers are horizontal instead of in a pack by the rear quarter or behind the front fender...I screwed up and was trying to hide the run.

I did up a Pro-Line bug body for mom's scx10 II for her birthday. I also used color change paint but it was the spazstix green/purple/teal. She wanted a aged coppery patina style paint job but shiny so I had to do it on the inside. I added 3 real light coats of color change lexan paint so the other paints would stick. Then used sea sponges dipped in various shades of blue, and turquoise krylon paints for the patina. Then I backed it with tamiya copper. Sealed it all in black bbq paint. The color change paint makes the other colors look really cool in the light. Especially with the curvy bug body. Hard to get a good picture that shows the effect. Especially since she ran off cackling with it in glee. Women love the bugs! I'll post pics if I can get her to sit still. I did manage to get a short video though. https://youtu.be/YdWwHt1nPiU |

Cool bug! What sound module did you use? Here's your video. Copy the embed code under the share menu. |

Thanks for the embed tip. That's the standard ESS One module. I'm sure there is a more buglike engine sound but she like it like it is. We run that sound module in about everything now. 5 or 6 of them running around the course all turned up loud is a hoot. Seems odd to run without engine sound now. They are on ebay for like $65 these days. The double speaker version is crazy loud for about $10 more.

Cool! Say what’s that that you’re using for a rear bumper on that thing?

It's just 2 pieces of 1/4" brake line bent 90 degs. The ends are filled with epoxy so it looks solid. Dad made them for her when he painted up her motor. It was a joint effort for mom's birthday. He also rigged up a rear hinge so the body tilts up like a funny car. The bumpers stop it from flipping over when she tilts the body back.

The chassis is a scx-10 that has been shortened both front and rear by alot. Those bug bodies are super short and i didn't want a crazy long wheel base.

Looks fantastic mate! Did you make the roll bars? What're they made of? Steel? Plastic? I need some! More would be great. Do you have a build thread anywhere? Cheers eh, Todd Last edited by Tossedman; 07-09-2018 at 03:07 PM. |

Yes home made. All steel, Todd, except for the fuel bracket which is brass. Bumpers took a little work to look right When I started on the dash the obsession kicked in! Fabulous work Sir! I need to learn how to work with metal me thinks. I've been throwing around a bunch of thoughts for an interior for mine and yours is a gold mine of ideas. I may have to steal a few of them. Those bumpers are epic as well! Are you going to use the Carisma engine out back? Cheers eh, Todd |

Thanks for that and steal away, after all it was yours that started me with all this! No I'm not using the engine. When I started I tried to make an engine lid, thinking "if this works I'll carry on" |

He's also using the Carisma 15007 M10DT Volkswagen Beetle Clear Body Set. They're getting hard to find as they've been discontinued.

Yes, the M10dt, and yes I had some luck finding one in December 2017. Tried off and on since but no luck. Todd, yours is fibreglass? Its painted on the outside, I think Tamiya corsa grey, which is blue to you and me. Filled in the body post holes and roof rack holes and modified the front wings, as did Todd, cos they are miles out. First run in a few hours!! Let you know how much I broke.
