I searched the user name Race730 with no luck. His videos are also some of the nails in the coffin of this idea for me. Pretty cool stuff. |

I've had one of these built and driving for a decent amount of time, I can tell you first hand that the main body tub is tough. My pig weighs right around 14 lbs, it has rolled over/flipped backwards more times than I care to think about and it has handled it all very well, no shattered plastic just some spider web stress marks. Most of these builds have the roll cage bolted directly to the body tub and suspension bolted directly to the plastic chassis, they hold up very well but as you point out, most of these jerps are meant to go slow. They are just too top heavy and they weigh too much to use as a 'go-fast' rig. The shear mass of these rigs makes the suspensions articulate very realistically and they have the right 'moans and groans' to put a smile on your face. The most fun that you have going slow ! |

ZoSo had some great vids of his crew out in the desert, lots of old running gear used on the different jeeps. WK axles, AX-10 axles, the first rounds of XR-modded AX-10 axles. So neat to go back and look at how some of those old rigs were set up.

You have to remember these "toys" were designed for 10 year old boys (destroyers of toys) and had to compete with the line of Tonka's .

First I've seen of your thread, but you'd probably get more responses if placed in the Large Scale Rigs section, as there are a lot of us that have built or are building, Mudbogger is building one now, with a really heavy duty frame. I used SCX-10 frame rails with a wraith skid. There are 2 different flat fender body styles from Hasbro. The current, often more expensive body from 2000-2002 seems to be the one most guys use, it also resembles a 21st Century or an Ultimate Soldier Jeep. The Original Hasbro Jeep body is from the "60's and early 70's. The newer bodies will take a bit more abuse, the older bodies, not so much. Check out my build thread "New Project (for me)" in the large scale section. Mine is the older model. The older models are easy to spot they have G.I. Joe 7000 printed on the hood. I picked mine up, with a trailer, for $5 at a garage sale. A lot of the newer body ones you're going to find on ebay go for $40 - $200, just have to wait and see. If sellers see them moving a lot, they kick up the prices. When they sit for a while, the prices fall. Last edited by Mike Flea; 12-06-2017 at 06:25 PM. |
