i dont think this question got answered yet, but i was thinking about buying the g-made wideners for my tlt. But i wanted to make sure first that i could still use these cvd's with the wideners. if it did not work I would rather run cvd's than wideners. Thanks. I just really want to make sure because i want these cvd's!! |

the way these work from what ive seen they wont work with aftermarket wideners, there set up like a mini 1/8 buggy, but the testers came with widners in the kit |

The CVD's came with 2 sets of hexes, one for normal width & one that widens it by about 1/2". There's a slight possibility that the G-made wideners will work. They may need to be drilled out to slide over the CVD. Longer bolts will also be needed. |

Well that is fine with me, i can spend the money on something else , if the cvd's come with a hex to make it 1/2 wider, that is good for me . I will use the money to buy these instead. Thanks for the quick replys!!

I drilled out the G-made wideners and got some longer bolts for them. Works great! No issues as of yet. I was able to pull out a 3rd place finish at our last comp running the CVD's dispite the my horrible driving that day! They also found their way into my 13" wb scale Hilux 4-door. It turns better than most comp rigs! I can make a u-turn within 5' 7". |

Well, after some serious beatings, and alot of wheel time. I managed to break my prototype CVD's. I sent a few pics of the carnage to the rockpiledriver, and explained what happened. A few weeks later I recieved an all new, beefier version of the CVD's. The new version has alot more meat around the neck of the outer axles, without sacrificing any steering. The 2nd set of prototypes has shown zero signs of wear after numerous battery packs, and they aren't even heat treated. I'm sure the production versions will be even stronger, because of that extra process. My hat's off to the guys at RCP Crawlers. They could have gone ahead and released the original CVD's, regardless of breakage. But they choose to redesign them, and make them even stronger, before releasing them to the public. That's dedication to the sport of R/C crawling and their customers. A few pics of the newest version. Last edited by BENDER; 03-23-2007 at 04:18 PM. |

Cant' really see the difference in the pic. Mine have been holding up well. But, then again I don't have the wall of death. |

Thanks Brad. Out of the 28 sets we gave out to testers, we had 6 failures. All of which occurred during some extremely bound up situations, and all at the exact same spot on the CVD joint. I think Jason was responsible for 3 of the 6 himself with his Novak Crawler System. All of the testers were given only one instruction, "TRY TO BREAK THESE" Most companies would accept 6 out of 28 as a reasonable failure rate, not RCP Crawlers. As soon as we found out failures were occurring, we immediately contacted MIP to ask what could be done to make these stronger. As with all of our requests MIP's response was "no problem we will take care of it." What they did was, go out and buy special tooling just forthis CVD! As a result the area that failed in the first batch has been increased in size by 50%, not only that but the whole CVD itself was made larger, while still maintaining the same steering angle as before. You can see this in Brad's pictures. Obviously, this redesign has taken a bit longer than we originally had planned, but now that we are confident these new CVD's will stand up to almost anything thrown at them, we are ready for production. MIP has been given the green light, and production has begun. Expect to see these available in 3 to 4 weeks. |
