| Tire or Wheel Venting ????
Just looking for opinions. I have ran comp crawlers for years. I always drilled my wheels on the comp trucks. On my scale trucks I'm thinking of doing the same. But... obviously the scaler is gonna see water, mud ect. I'm worried about water in the wheels. Soaking into the foams. Right now I have not vented at all yet. It definitely needs it. Just wondering what you guys are doing. Thanks Ryan |

either one ive done both. most of my venting is done through the wheel. but when i bought my first set of custom vanquish wheels ($300+ spent) i cut the tires cause i was to scared to drill the wheel. lol. Im no professional but i dont notice any difference between venting the wheel vs the tire. It all comes down to the size of the whole and how many you have |

Drill and tap a hole inside of the wheel. If you want to drive through water and mud stick a bolt in the hole. Or my personal favorite, just stay out of the mud and water all together.

A leather punch and a few holes in the tire work great. When you do get water or dirt in the tire centrifugal force will throw it out. If you have a hole in rim, is just lets stuff in, not out.

i always do my tires. wheels are $100+, and tires wear out and get thrown away. ive always done two 1/8" holes on the inside sidewall 180* apart. i use an exacto knife. in 6+ years ive never had a single tear. i will admit that the majority of the community vents the wheels not the tires though. |

Thank you. Like I said. I did vent the wheels on the comp truck. Vanquish of course..... But I avoided water and mud. I like your thoughts fj40jay. If the water gets it. Or not if but when it gets in. It can run out if the holes in tires. I know memory foam would change when I got wet. Normal foam remained the same. I am looking into getting a couple sets of Crawler Innovations closed cell scale foams. I'm assuming water would not affect them much. Thank you !!!! |
