| GCM makes nylon axles - Coming soon
Hey, everyone! Here's a thread to start some chatter on this subject.... Way back in February, some of the GCM team went to the ScaleFreak garage to have a chat with the lads down there, and we showed off some of the prototypes of the new GCM TerraMod axle housings. These were some of the initial prints (100% nylon material) and there were still some details to work out, and some testing to be done. Well, it's been many hours of scale trails later, and several months of trucking and shows and travel that delayed this.. but...we are soon to reveal the final product for sale. There was a great amount of feedback from the people who saw the items at the show booths over the summer, and from our meet at ScaleFreak and STEG-6 events in Canada, and we value your feedback! The new housings will come in black only, and you can paint and detail them as you wish. We will be supplying XR style Universals up front, or CVD sets up front for the left-side-offset diff, and there's a front locker included also. The front housing is already tabbed for top mount shocks, 3 link, and panhard setup. The rear housing includes rear brake dust shields, and calipers, which are a direct fit for GCM rims and rotors. Both front and rear will require your Axial ring gears and pinions, as well as bearings, and only rear SCX axle shafts, because the front shafts are provided. ** I want to make sure you all know ahead of time that these are plastic housings, and we are not marketing these as basher axles, nor strong like an aluminum housing! Many people have asked me about this. I can't see these housings ever having a structural failure, as we made them super meaty in the right places to take regular use and odd abuse. These are super scaled Axial guts housings that will love daily trail riding and regular scale use, and not intended for ramping your JK on a ROC 412 with 4s. Thanks for understanding. ** Expect more details in a couple of weeks when we put the final production parts under our new DSTP build! We will also be running a set on our Class 2 ECSC series rig for 2015, and have already proven they can take the task well. Here's some pictures of the items from our shows, and the GCM trucks, and if you have some of your own shots from the shows, add them here also! (shown with SCX steering, it's all XR now) |

Yes, splined etc, as it should be. The pinion angle is already clocked up 7deg with the axle at "zero" in the design, so you have all the castor options you could want. More pics up shortly.

There's no preorder or anything yet. I've got a dream to do these in aluminum but it's going to be expensive! Mega machine work.... But worth a try! That's coming no time soon....

I want on the list!! Too awesome, the way SCX axles should have looked I know you say not basher axles, but would they be similar in strength to an scx axle? Last edited by Crank; 09-22-2014 at 06:52 PM. |

| Re: GCM makes nylon axles - Coming soon They are basically as strong, but they will scratch a bit easier. The surface is softer than the composite material in the stock SCX housing.
