JIA- Did you pull those diffs from a Wheely King kit or did you source the parts to build them? If you sourced the parts, could you post up the required part numbers? I can't find a manual for the Wheely King on the HPI site. Thanks |

Could you PM me with price and turnaround time? I'm on a tight schedule. Looneybin...which question? IronOx, the WK axles are larger and beefier than TLT axles...and what better way to test'm that to put'm under my favorite basher? Quote:
I'll be old and gray by the time I'm ready to sell Ralph. Old anyway...I'm going bald much too fast to be gray at that point.

Was wondering if Ralphie was going to be the test bed for the WK axles When I saw the 4x4 submarine WK video I thought he was going to be the next step in the progression. Do you plan on using the WK trans as well? Very cool!!

ScG, you'd have to ask rckjeep, he built Ralph's frame ages ago. Wildrice, this rig sees abuse on a weekly basis. Plans: WK axles TXT tranny Revo driveshafts Powered by Novak Crawler system Steering servo is a JR Sport 125MG DX3 All-Ts on RPM Revolvers It's the same basic stuff with the exception of the WK axles, Revo shafts, and the suspension links I'm making. Servo and battery placement will also change. I might have some build progress to post up later tonight. |

Bah! What's worse is my bin of ideas. Too many ideas, not enough materials or time. I started on the suspension links. Wanted to use a bit of a different setup on this one. I'm using 4-40 and 8-32 blind nuts and some 3/16" and 1/4" brake tubing to make the links. First thing I did was sand the finish off the flange on the 1/4 brake line. Also used a Dremel to take some finish off the blind nuts. Drilled the ID of the 1/4" line to 7/32" and slid the blind nut into the tubing. MIG welded the flange of the tubing and the blind nut together then brazed the joint. Ground down the excess material then put the link in the cordless drill. Sanded it with 120 grit to make it look presentable. End result is pictured below. I think it'll work so I'm off to make a few more. |

With the abuse you put poor old Ralph through, do you think those links will survive?...Doesn't sound like he's got any New Years resolutions to go on a diet. Clever Idea, and nice execution. |

Looneybin, The end result will be worth it. wildrice, The way I'm building these links they'll be plenty beefy. I still have more more steel to add. With the suspension I'm putting in a conventional link just won't work. I figured this was the best way to get the job done. Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 12-21-2006 at 09:44 AM. |

Interesting idea about the links, I like it. So the majority of the inside of the link is hollow?

Yeah, basically the entire link is hollow. (I know what you're thinking and it won't be weak. ) I wanted to have more progress pic but I set the MIG wrong and burned through one of the 3/16" tubes. That wouldn't have been so bad, but there was threaded rod under the area I burned through. The rod wouldn't come out so I'll have to cut the tube and screw. Once I noticed this I left things on the bench and cooled off. I'll try to post up more pics of the build later tonight. |

Seriously though, I like the idea and I really would like to know how it works out. I don't know anything about the tubes aside from I can bend and braze them. How do you make a flange on the other side of the tube?
